COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nordic Lean in collaboration with Stillwater Artisanal is a Purple IPA that’s been 100% fermented with Brettanomyces c. and dry-hopped with Pacific Gem and Centennial. How did we purp it? A combination of blueberry, blackberry and black currant juices. It’s tangy, hoppy, juicy and funky. This unique beer is beautiful, nice and a little fucked up, just like us.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2018 Finally, a beer from 'Stillwater' that doesn't seem to be rated high for reputation sake. Deep hazy funky purple colour (that holds up to the label) with a thin off-white head that fades quite quickly, but looks nice and odd - nothing like a 'typical' beer at all. Aroma of pure brett, funk, earth, grain, dry grasses, hay, alcohol and more funk - no hops at all, no sweetness or sugars and no real malts. Medium-bodied; Super bittered and assertive grassy, herbal and especially bretty funky flavours dominate with no real centre to build upon with only a touch of malts, no hops and just the centralised yeast character that is pure funk. Dry, grassy, herbal and lightly floral with brett, dry oak and funk and that's it...perhaps a bit of alcohol on the end. Aftertaste, dry and bretty with a lot of funk, actually - way too much funk with grass and herbs showing and that's it - no hops at all and no sweetness in the slightest bit, definitely NOT an IPA by any stretches - this isn't even a 'wild ale' it's just a dry purple saison, and not a good one at that. Overall, a pretty poor beer in every category with a dry grassy flavour being the only thing that's nice, but the brett keeps it funkier and there is no malt, no hops, no sweetness or any sort of complexity whatsoever to make this different from the nose to the flavour to the aftertaste at all. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 09-March-2018 for US$4,99 sampled at home in Washington on 15-May-2018.

Bottle. Pours like venous blood, ruby red and a bit thick. The head starts firm but dissipates quickly. The aroma is intriguing, with a berry field twist. This drinks with a funky note, the dark berry pulp the primary star. Lives up to their description. Nice one. (#6931, 2/2018)

Idiosynkrasie (16100) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - DEC 30, 2017
330ml bottle. Murky brown colour with small to average, thick, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Slightly weak, fruity and cautiously funky aroma, hints of dark berries, blackcurrent for the most part, some unripe blueberry, a minimally sweaty, if not cheesy touch. Taste is dry, tart, tangy, fruity, notes of dark berries, blackcurrant, bramble, some unripe blueberry, citrusy fruity hints of grapefruit; a minimally papery interference. Still some finishing work to do.
