COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Appearance was clear root beer with lasting tannish creamy 1 finger head, lacing abound. Aromas are sweet Carmel, pale, crystal malts with deep fruits. Esters of floral rosé-like with touch of alcohol and candi. Taste are deep fruits of raisin, date , fig, cherry candi sweetness with hints of spices. Palate was smooth soft creamy CO2 with full body, then deep fruity lasting glorious finish. Wonderful Belgian beauty.

A wonderful trappist. A full bodied, wonderfully malty beer. This is a must try for beer lovers everywhere.

Westmeister’s Birthday Beer Tasting Extravaganza Beer #2. Paired this up with some delicious barbecue. Smelled of wine, grapes, and honey. Poured the color of a reddish brown ale. Not sure if that description is akin to using a root word to define another word. Tasted sweet with a mildly bitter finish. Excellent effervescence (alliteration is fun). 33cl 2012 bottle (in past i drunk one very good 2008 reserve 4 years aged) dark brown/red color with fine head, strong aroma and taste, with roasted malt, caramel and liquor notes. But young beer is not good how much one aged bottle. At low temperature this beer is excessive and heavy, but at 12-14° temperature is good in body and taste.

330ml bottle. Dark murky mahogany pour with average head that leaves a blanket of lace. Lots of dark fruit and whisky on the nose with spice and black cherry. Sort of a rum fruit cake flavour dominates the palate with a solid spicy note. There’s something lacking in the taste and finish.

Close to perfection and one of the standards to measure all other beers. This is so well done, complex, and smooth that it feels like you’re meeting an old friend when you drink it. Superb!

Spicy yeasty aroma, roastiness and malty. Nice sweet and balanced flavor. Heavy on the peppery side, slight notes of dried fruits, but overall peppery flavor wins out. Getting more dark fruit flavor as it warms up and carbonation goes away ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I had the red and white b4 and more then once yrs ago but see I didn’t rate them. Well Blue: I got a good head off it,the beer on the left side looked red and right side like a bark brown. Smell it from open bottle at a distance as spice, yeast, fruity boosyness up front to nose beer smells of plum & gape. Taste is the heavier fruity(plummy, grape)higher % Belgum beer taste. If the 9% is ever felt it’s just a little small warmth. You do feel a bit buzzed from this. Well,I think I liked white & red better but not sure what one is better been to long. This is still good butnot great to me. Cheer’s,

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Large tan, bubbly head. Reddish brown body. I poured carefully, still the yeast is visible when held up to the light. Aroma of yeast, leather and wood. The alcohol is pretty camouflaged. Sweet taste. Rich and complex, but not at the same level as Rochefort 10. Aftertaste of metal.
