UPDATED: OCT 8, 2021 I've had this 750ml bottle for at least 3 years now, finally the time to drink it! Pours a beautiful thick black, with a small tan head. Aroma is quite crazy, with an intense herbal, earthy and funky note, almost reminiscent of oregano and pizza in a way (this might be due to age?). Strong raspberry and rich chocolate come through clearly, don't get much vanilla. Medium body, silky and smooth mouthfeel. Flavour is malty, light sweetness, good roast character, nice dark malts. Raspberry is intense and pairs really well with the chocolate, but again, I don't get much vanilla if any. Finish is roasted barley, light bitterness, slightly dry. This is interesting. Not among the very best from Wild Beer, but good and interesting nevertheless.

Alengrin (11043) - Gent, BELGIUM - JUL 24, 2020
UPDATED: JUL 24, 2020 Strong fruit stout flavoured with cocoa nibs, thanks Pieter for sharing the can. Thick and mousy, frothy, mocha-beige head over a jet black beer. Aroma of indeed (lots of) actual ripe red raspberries, raspberry jam even but not in an industrial way, Ersatz chocolate, toffee, cappuccino, the raspberry filling in a chocolate bar (a Belgian invention, by the way), hazelnut. Sweet onset with sourish edge, very raspberry jam-like, even hinting at ripe black cherries and brambleberries, softishly carbonated, smooth oily body; toffeeish, caramelly and eventually very chocolatey middle with this 'raspberry filling' continuing, developing bitter coffeeish roastiness in the end - so evolving from raspberry flavours to bitter black chocolate and coffee flavours. In that sense, a layered, very well-balanced fruit stout of the sweeter kind, a liquid 'praline' delivering what it promises. Mission accomplished, if somewhat of a one-trick pony for me - lacking a bit of complexity, but as a postmodern 'designer' beer focusing on its own goal, there is no denying that this is very well done. If you like desserty, sweet fruit stouts, that is.
