Patersoi (455) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 24, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2021 Malty bouquet. Deep amber pour. Barleywine in character. Malty mostly, boozy, some honey, a hint of christmas plum pud. Alcohol and a touch of glug on the finish.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2020 Bottled, 330ml (11% ABV) bought at the Merton Winter Beer Festival '18. Amber to copper with white head. Definitely Barleywine in character, fiery alcohol, apricot, almonds t the fore in a mid roasted malty body. Some sweetness, some orange peel flavours. It's a sipper but went well with my Lancashire Hotpot on a wintery evening.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2019 30ml bottle from Carwyn Cellars 11% ABV BB 20.10.18 Pale copper body, white head short lived. Not a huge amount of aroma to it; pale caramel, touch of vinous sultana and dried fruit, hint of toast. It's quite big, boozy, chewy, sticky, long finish to it. Once again, vinous, red fruits, dried fruits, caramel, toast, not so much spicy as many Belgian strong's tend to be... Certainly fruity, rather sweet overall. A bit different, booze is quite heady, not quite the finesse of a Tripel in the realms of golden Belgian strong's.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2019 Florals, citrus, sweet tobacco. Pours orange amber with ok head and lacing. Caramel. Finishes sweet. OK stuff. Certainly not like many other barley wines. Bottle.

jybi (2292) - Nouméa, NEW CALEDONIA - JAN 28, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2019 Cette bière manque nettement d'inspiration.

330ml bottle [11% abv, as per label]. Minimally milky, amber colour with small, thick, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Sweet-ish, malty aroma with notes of almond, marzipan, fruity hoppy hints of apricot jam, some liquorice. Taste is sweet-ish malty, notes of almond and marzipan, bitter hoppy counterweight with fruity hints of apricot jam; well hidden alcohol. Clean, focussed, almost a bit monotonous.

Tap at HOTD 25th anniversary. Colour...light amber with a thin head. Nose...dark raisins, dates, currants, oak and brambly fruit leather. Palate...lightly sweet and mildly astringent with plenty of dark fruits ( especially those mentioned above). The mid palate offers tannins and gripping notes that are most phenolic. The finish is long, robust, darkly fruity and firm.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2018 On tap at hotd. Pours a clear orange color with a medium white head. A big fruity caramel nose. Fresh sweet hops, tangerine, sweet sticky malts. Lovely. Big beer.
