12 ounce bottle from Ridgeview Liquors. Clear dark brown, thin fizzy head, poor retention. Aroma of brandy, oak, toffee, vanilla. Taste is nuts, oak, toffee, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, raisin, chocolate. Medium bodied, mild bitterness, well balanced. Quite nice.

In the spirit of accurate sampling (purely scientific, of course), I poured a shot of brandy alongside H-CB to match up similar and different influences. I found them in the aroma (a little) and the finish (the distant end of the ale’s finish with just the slightest of burning). H-CB’s aroma has much more chocolate and plums in it than brandy, though. Couldn’t detect any barrel oakiness. The pour is beautiful and the lacing adds to the attractiveness. Wonderful sweetness that does not overwhelm the taste.Tyranena makes so many great variations on its brown ale and this is yet another.

Pale brown with orange hues. Boozy brandy with light toasted malt and cocoa. Flavor is light brandy with more toasted malt and light roast. Some lingering heat.

On tap at Champps in Brookfield. Brown pour, little head. Nose is overripe fruits, and sweet malts. Taste is sweet, almost brown sugar, malty, some fruit. Medium bodied, which for this flavor palate, was disappointingly thin. Some alcohol presence. Finishes sweetly with those great Tyranena malts lingering. 13.7

Draft at the brewery. Pours medium-dark brown with ruby notes. Bread and brown sugar with vanilla and grape following. Some alcohol in the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle [vintage 2010]... Poured dark brown with a thin forming, tan head. Nose had dark sugars, malt, woody oak, and a hint of oxidation. But that nice level of oxidation of an aged beer, before any wet cardboard came into play. Flavor wise and smooth, low alcohol presence and quite sweet. Dark fruits, candied sugars, liquor, wood, and charred oak. Overall quite sweet. Glad I shared it three ways.

interesting beer, thanks for the share, it had a nice colour to it. The beer tasted interesting as well, there was a bit of oak, carmel and even a bit of brandy notes as well. Overall not bad stuff

Bottle at Dark Lord Day. Thanks for the share. Taste is sweet caramel with light chocolate with a hint of oak. Lighter than I thought. Overall very good beer. Would like to try again.

Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Poured near clear caramel brown with a light brown head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had a nice brandy note with sweet grains, caramel and a hint of toffee. Flavor was sweet with cookie, caramel and sweet grains with just a hint of brandy.
