COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In The beginning, there were ales. As far as anyone knows, the first beers made were ’top-fermented’, which is longhand for ’Ale’. Sometime long before the 1860’s, beers became popular that were made in Northern Europe with a bottom fermenting yeast strain that liked the colder temperatures. Because they had to spend weeks aging before they tasted their best, they were known as ’Lager’ beer. Lager is the German word for ’storage’. Since they had to sit a while, they took up more time and space and as such were harder and more expensive to make. Where ales are meaty, lagers are sinewy. Where ales are street, lagers are ’haute couture’. Where an ale might hit you over the head and take your wallet, lagers donate to charity and adopt stray cats. While an ale might steal your car or try to date your daughter and keep her out all night for who-knows-what purpose, a well bred lager would offer to clean your house while you’re on vacation and leave fresh scones and coffee for you when you return. Now, don’t get us wrong, ales can be a lot of fun to hang out with when you’re in the right mood, and if you have bail money on you. But what’s wrong with livin’ uptown from time to time, on a nice street, where the doormen all wear those little uniforms, the air smells of flowers, and lagers rule the Earth. Cheers!

mbos4115 (195) - - AUG 4, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2021 Clear deeper blond, thin foam Smelly hops, earthy, wet forest, some sweet malt, caramel, toffee. Fuller bodied, flavourful at entry, and clean short finish. Quite refreshing, but more like a pale ale more than a pilsner.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2020 Found out of bottle from Ingles in Franklin, North Carolina. Pours a standard gold with fluffy white foam. Standard aroma. Better than average for the style. Not a bad summer option.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2020 12oz bottle from a Chevron Station in Portland, OR and drunk on 29/08/2008. This was a really solid pils, with a nice lager malt nose and a good amount of peppery hops. I actually haven’t had it in a long time, and I dare say it’s not what it once was, but at the time, you’d struggle to get a better lager from a gas station 6-pack.

freekyp (3691) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - APR 13, 2020
UPDATED: APR 13, 2020 The peppery hops are the star of this classic Czech styled pils from Lagunitas. Pours deep yellow with a thick glass coating blanket of froth. Lacing is thick and even. Crisp and even with a dry hoppy fade. Deliciousness in its tradition.

Borresteijn (11300) - Heerhugowaard, NETHERLANDS - MAR 7, 2020
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2020 Op tap bij LiB'20. Heldergeel, witte kraag. Aroma is bloemig, citroenschil, hoppig. Smaak is redelijk zoet, honing, bloemig, citroenschil, verbena, grassig, redelijk bitter. Lichte body. Lekkere frisse pils.

MattShizzle (749) - Bernville, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 29, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2019 Bottle. Was in a mixed 6 Xmas gift, so don't know location. Very light golden color. Rather hoppy aroma. Tastes like a Czech pilsner, but there are definitely non-saaz hops. Also a slight off-taste. Pretty good.
