COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Name changed to Dancing Trout as of 2007, formerly Trout Slayer.
Dancing Trout Ale is a German Wheat Ale, the filtered version of a true Bavarian Hefeweizen. In Bavaria this beer would be called a Kristall-Weizen (Crystal-Wheat) because of its clarity. Dancing Trout Ale is brewed with malted wheat, pale and carmel malt, and moderately hopped using the best quality hops from Germany. Unlike its British and American counterparts, Dancing Trout Ale is brewed in the Bavarian tradition: aged a minimum of 28 days, versus 7-10 days for the average ale. This means Dancing Trout Ale is mild with no bitter aftertaste! We dedicate this beer to helping preserve Montana’s trout habitat, one beer at a time. To truly appreciate Dancing Trout Ale as a year-round member of Bayern Brewing’s line of fine beers, an explanation is in order. This is especially because it is possible that you may already know this beer by one or two different names. Back in 1987, this beer was known as Bayern Light Wheat Ale — the filtered version of our original Hefeweizen. In 2002, Light Wheat Ale took on the personality many beer connoisseurs came to know as Trout Slayer Ale. The beer and the name grew in popularity, especially with our outdoor and angling audience. Bayern Brewing celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2007, making it the oldest brewery operating in Montana. At that time, in order to honor our time-tested brew, we decided to change the name and the label image to best reflect Bayern Brewing’s environmental company philosophy. In our search for a more appropriate name we kept coming back to Dancing Trout and Montana native artist Monte Dolack created yet another evocative image that was used for the label. Whether as a fishing term or in various spiritual expressions of music and dance, Dancing Trout has become a symbol celebrating the lifestyle embraced by Montana and the values of Bayern Brewing.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2020 12oz bottle from Belmont Station, Portland, OR and drunk on 22/08/2008. A decent kristalweizen. Would be an acceptable beer in Bavaria, I think.

Poured into the closest thing I could find to a pint glass... frothy 2 finger head.. the brew is a crystal clear straw color. Nose is wheat and a little bread.. maybe some grassy hops, but I could be imagining things.. Flavor has more toasty notes and an unexpected caramel quality that is lite but definitely present.. the body is a bit thin with the bubbly carbonation..

Bottle from trade rated using backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy yellow gold color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have wheat malt, mild sweetness, light caramel, mild citrus, yeast, fairly clean. Not too bad for what it is.

Best by: Dec, 2011 A: pours yellow golden with less than a finger of off-white foam which immediately falls to a sheet of the same with bordered rim. excellent clarity. No lace. S: Sweet and malty with some banana esters and some wheat tones. Really nice for the style. T: Again, sweet, with malts and wheat tones. Again, some banana esters. Some corn tone as well. M: Light bodied with moderately light carb with a semi dry finish. O: Good beer. Really sessionable, would love to see this one in a can. Serving type: bottle 05-18-2012

12floz/355ml bottle to a Blue Moon glass. Served cold. Aroma: Pretty yeasty and malty. Not much going on. Maybe the teeniest tiniest hint of spice. Appearance: Translucent, slightly hazy bright yellow body with a small-moderate white head. Pretty nice lacing. Taste: Interesting. Bready, a tiny bit of spice, but there’s this flavor I just can’t place. It may be yeast, but it may be kind of fruity. Palate: Light bodied, slightly watery. Short, malty finish. Overall: Pretty decent brew. Nothing makes it particularly memorable, or remarkable, but it’s in no way a bad beer.

Bottle to shaker. Poured a gold color. Smell is wheat, buiscuity, malt. Taste is light and simply. Ok beer, too simple though.

Thanks to IBrew2or3 for a 12oz of this one. Cheers, Dave! Pours a somewhat hazy yellow-orange with a small white head. Nose is sweetness- I get grain, and I am thinking corn, too. There is also some slight fruitiness. Flavor is similar- sweetness to the point that makes me think about corn, slight banana, and slight grain. A bit syrupy in the palate with some mild bitterness into the finish.
