3 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Koshihikari Lager Pours a dark gold with some orange/copper and nice off-white tight head. Aromas of apricot and peach with some caramel malt and roasted grain. Taste is more of the same, but kinda sweet. Sweet finish with some roastiness. Sunday, August 16, 2015

2.6 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Koshihikari Lager Tulip glass from bottle. Golden, minimal carbonation. Faint smell of peach. Body a bit thicket than I would have expected. Sour bitter peach, almost a dry fruit wine. Friday, April 10, 2015

3.3 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Baisen Koshikari Lager Served in a half-pint glass, bottle at my place shared with Nie. I was surprised to see this poured pitch black with a thick rusty tan head. An aroma of soy, chocolate & a stone fruit syrupy sweetness. My first impression of the taste is roasted cherries, the body is very dry and it is sour & tangy. Really interesting. Sell this as a sour black cherry beer and you’ll make a mint. Friday, April 10, 2015

3.2 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Koshihikari Lager Pouring a deep gold with an off-white head that left no lacing behind. The nose is fruity, a bit white wine like with some graininess. Med-light bodied with a very dry finish. The taste is bitter, a bit ashey with some tangy fruit notes. OK. Friday, April 10, 2015

3 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Sunset Pils Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Sunset Pils - Served in a footed pilsner glass it is a deep yellow gold with a soapy looking off-white head. Earthy & fruity with no noticeable hop character. Rough carbonation on a medium body. The flavor is more interesting than the aroma with a solid maltiness, surprisingly floral hoppiness and sweet candy malt hit and a dry green bitter finish. Decent though it doesn’t scream pilsner to me. I was expecting worse based on the other reviews... then as it warms up I start to get buttery diacetyl which dropped it from 3.2 to 3... 2.4 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Red Sunset Draught at the brewery. I guess this also has roasted rice in it. Black with a pretty orange head. Huge, sweet aroma of kuromitsu, sweet syrup made from rice. Amazingly wacky sweetness but burnt rice sugar, grape juice. Silly sweet. Tastes like the yeast died on the second day. The strangest barley wine I have ever tried. Interesting flavors going on, but it is only attenuated about halfway! Monday, May 31, 2010

3.3 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Baisen Koshikari Lager Draught at the brewery. I think the idea here is that it is the rice in it that is roasted (baisen). Certainly tastes that way. Huge, airy tan head on a shiny black beer. Gorgeous. Caramel, roasty aroma of Japanese mizuame, a sweet liquid candy made from roasted rice. Flavor of mizuame all the way, plus soy, miso. Sourness also strong. Very, very weird, though it is growing on me. Monday, May 31, 2010

2.6 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Sunset Pils Draught at the brewery. Sweet caramel aroma that is strangely milky. Light flavor, tangy, ok hops and malt but a bit too watery and mineral. Not all that good. Monday, May 31, 2010

2.6 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Red Sunset Very dark brown color. Dark red/brown color. Over poweringly sweet nose withintense soy sauce, dark chocolate, tobacco leafs. Full body, massively sweet, soy sauce, grape juice and dark chocolate. Way under attenuated. Very sweet. No balance. A joke of beer. Saturday, May 29, 2010

2.9 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Sunset Pils Light floral nose. Body is weak. Not enough malts or hops. Not bad, but highly indistingushed. Little to no bitterness in the finish. Saturday, May 29, 2010

3.4 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Koshihikari Lager Notes of tropical fruits, mildly grainy nose. Very clean, well balances mouth, with some toasted cereal and tropical fruit notes. Dry, mildly bitter, toasted malt finish. Decent and enjoyable. Saturday, May 29, 2010

3.5 Nihonkai Yuhi Misaki Koshihikari Lager Draught at the brewpub. Rich and sweet, with flavors of rice, rice pudding, and nice malt. Great creamy body: smooth and full. Very good balance as well. Nice drinking beer, better than other times I have had it. Monday, September 14, 2009
