3.5 Small Acres Pomona Ice Tasting at Matt’s; screwcap; 8.5% ABV Skewed Refractometer Reading: 22°B Blond color. Nice aroma, less apple than expected, a hint of Sauternes. Sweet, but also correctly acidic; juicy apple flavor; no character of real Ice Cider, but very nice. Wednesday, June 29, 2016

3.6 Small Acres Pomona Ice 375mL bottle, pours a hazy yellow. Aroma brings out crisp green apple skins, a fairly dry (for an ice cider) apple quality, and some citrusy acidity. Flavour is along the same lines, with a champagne-y and white winey quality to it, along with crisp green apples, and low residual sweetness from an ice cider. More white winey than any ice cider I’ve come across. Very nice stuff, but not on the level of Quebec ice ciders. Wednesday, June 29, 2016

3.8 Small Acres Cyder Shekar Tap at GABS 2016. Golden. Elements of oak on the aroma, but overall and underwhelming aroma. The flavour is fantastic though, with tannin and oak, funk. It’s incredibly refreshing, hitting that difficult to find spot that isn’t sweet or too dry, instead having real texture. Just the type of cider I love. Sunday, June 12, 2016

3.4 Small Acres Sparkling Dry Cider Vintage 2012. 750mL capped Champagne bottle. Clear golden body, fine beading, holds a ring of white head. Good apple aroma - slightly bruised/oxidised but not in a bad way, faint floral, orchardy, spicy undertones. Light bodied, Champagne-like carbonation with lovely associated creamy carbonation. Ripe apples, toasty yeast leesy character, floral vinous notes, bready finish. Fine line of malic acidity lingers on the the finish. Elegant, old-world style of cider, very well done! 4.2 Small Acres Pomona Ice 375ml bottle. Pale gold in colour. Floral notes, muscovado sugar, smooth apple and nutty oak make up the aroma. Sweet-tart apple up front followed by orange blossom leads into almond meal in the mid-palate. A little oak and sweet apple to finish. This is a very pleasant drink, and a nice alternative to dessert wine or fortified. Friday, January 24, 2014

2.7 Small Acres Perry 750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy pale yellow, with well-defined bubble trails. The aroma is muted, but mainly fruity pear and leather. It is very tart to begin, much more so than most perry. A sweet pear flavour then comes in, followed by a strong mix of musk and spiced gouda, which is not all together pleasant. The finish returns to the initial tart flavour. This is a bit mixed. I quite like its strong tartness, but the cheese and musk are not great. It’s drinkable, but there are many preferable options when it comes to perry. Tuesday, March 1, 2011

4.3 Small Acres Cidre Rouge 750ml bottle. Pours an attractive sunset pink, similar, as the label suggests, to rosé. It is one of the best-looking ciders I have ever seen. Sweet nutty aromas mix with strawberry, raspberry and lemon, creating an alluring introduction. A powerful bitter lemon flavour starts it, with some walnut to follow. Redcurrant appears towards the finish, which is reminiscent of a dry Normandy cider. The palate is brisk and crisp. A lovely cider - it is crisp and refreshing, yet complex and rewarding also. Definitely the best Australian cider I’ve had to date. Sunday, February 13, 2011

3.5 Small Acres Sparkling Dry Cider 750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy straw yellow, with very little head, looking much like a proper English scrumpy. There are notes of lemon and Pink Lady apples on the nose, and the lemon is very strong as one begins to drink. This flavour continues, mixing with some very tart apple in the finish. The palate is as dry as is conceivably possible. This is a good interpretation of a scrumpy cider, probably the best in this style that I have had from outside of England. There has clearly been some effort put into this, and I am quite impressed. Friday, September 3, 2010

1.6 Small Acres Norfolk Still Medium Dry Cider 750ml bottle. Pours a dark gold, and flat as a tack, with, therefore, no head. The aroma is a bit weak, with some apple and dried fruit showing through. There is some sweet apple to begin, with a watery mid-section and a sweet apple finish. The total flatness of this cider, however, makes it nearly unbearable, whatever its other virtues may be.
