On cask (gravity dispense) at Chelmsford Beer Festival on 15 July 2011. Attractive bright old gold colour. Loose but lasting white head. Very good condition. Strong fruit aroma. A bit confected. sweetish and fruity on the palate. A touch of tartness provides relief. Not too artificial. Pretty decent for a UK fruit beer - they are not usually my cup of tea.

Isle of Avalon Jasmine's Chocolate Orange Stout
Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, day 3 on 2 December 2010. Thanks to Mick Lewis for sharing this beer which was supposedly "not ready". Bloomin’ ’eck. It does exactly what it says in the tin. It smells exactly like a Terrys chocolate orange. Big bitter orange aroma. Fantastic dark chocolate orange character all round. Some might criticize this for not being "beery" enough but I loved the stuff.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, day 2 (beer #14) on 1 December 2010. Copper colour. No head. Not much sign of gin. Doesn’t really taste 7.5%, although there is a little alcohol warmth late on. Not really sure what’s going on here to be honest. Odd, but not unpleasant.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Battersea Beer Festival on 10 February 2011. Mid-gold in colour. Very good condition. Sweetish and sherbety, with plenty of flowery hop - tropical fruit (pineapple?). Flavoursome but balance seemed a little off kilter - seemed a touch short of grip and bite. Still quite likeable.

Pigs Ear. Courtesy of Jackie - Cheers Jackie! Hazy dark brown beer, residual white head. Smell exactly like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Lovely orangey oils in the flavour with some sweet chocolate backing it up. Semi dry finish. A lot of people will hate this but it appeals to my sweet tooth and it’s a nigh on perfect ’confectionary beer’.

Isle of Avalon Gordon's 75 Gin
2nd December 2010
Pigs Ear. Clear brown beer, no head. Low carbonation, semi dry palate. Tastes vaguely porterish with a little dark malt in the taste (but not the appearance). Some semi sweet dried fruit underneath. Finishes dry with a little more porterish like malt. A trace of gin? Or is that the power of suggestion. Okay if a little odd.

A Sim rate (cask at Pig’s Ear): Aroma of cheesy wine. It’s rich and plummy but also off-puttingly sour. Taste of plum and white wine. Woody. "Is it aged in a gin barrel?" "It’s aged in a gin bottle!"
