Bottle of 33cl, in a Tulip glass; from the fridge. From the colour, this beer does not seem very enjoyable : dark copper /muddy with a nice white head. But then, the aroma and taste come. Roasty, with dark caramel/toffee notes, this beer is really enjoyable. Good discovery !

la Caussenarde Imperial Stout
330 ml bottle. Pours a chestnut brown with a huge off-white head. The aroma is lightly to medium malty with roasted malt but relatively mild - toffee, coffee, some burnt notes. Medium-full body with an average carbonation, a light to medium sweetness and a light bitterness. The flavor is medium malty with toffee, dried fruits, hints of cardboard, some chocolate and burnt wood. Finishes with a light herbal hoppy touch and cold coffee. Rather thin for the ABV and not entirely balanced.

la Caussenarde Blonde
Bottle from a friend @ home. Nice head, lively carbonation, golden coulour, yeasty but quite hoppy. Usually not a fan of french country side microbreweries (too yesty and not complex) this one it’s a winner on the area, really pleasant and well elaborate. Golden ale to me and not belgian ale

la Caussenarde Ambrée
Glowing copper body with stable light beige head. Spot on looks for this Belgian style amber, really good. Interesting aroma, much more expressive than your usual French ambrée. Spices, ceral, whole wheat bread, foresty hops. Especially the cinneamon and clove spice mix works very well - not like you sometimes find in American interpretations of Belgian styles, but solidly balanced with bready malts and a smooth Belgian yeast. In the taste the spice starts overtaking the beer a bit for me, and its herbal bitterness adds to that. Perhaps more sweetness could have done to balance this, but I suppose that this is the downside of that rich aroma. Aftertaste is fairly short too. Well, from the excellent start into a somewhat disapointing ending... If you like spiced beers you’ll love this. It doesn’t quite totally hold up for me personally. The average rating is not because this brew is uninteresting, that’s for sure. (75cl bottle from La Houblonnière in Toulouse)
