North End Salt and Wood La Mūre
330 ml can for $ 6.99 from Freshchoice , Chch City central : Pinky-amber brew , settles to a soupy look with no head , clear ... mild aroma of berryfruit , funky , wild yeast .... frothy mouthfeel , dry & sour , tangily salivating ... not a great example of the style , but cheap enough & easily approachable .

Fruity floral aroma in a copper brown pour. Hop malt balance tends to the later and makes for a tasty change from the ubiquitous hop bomb IPA or slushie fruit salad hazy.

500ml bottle pours a deep Ruby with mild tan head. Spice, floral, herbal, with red fruits and hints of tang. Medium to full body with light carbonation. Robust red fruits with roasted malts and hints of heat at the back. Levels of funk come through which make this odd ans fun.

North End Lost Orchard
440ml can. Pours a dirty pale gold with a 50% white head even when poured slowly that then dies to a thin film. Aroma is initially strong pear but it subsides to a mild Saison. Beer is hugely fizzy, easily the beer with the most fizz I've had since my last homebrew. Eventually it is fairly light, with a vague fruit flavour over a yeasty Saison base. Disappointing beer, way too fizzy & downhill after the initial aroma.
Earlier Rating: 10/19/2021 Total Score: 4.1
440ml can. Pours a murky mid brown with an OTT off white head which took up 90% of my glass out of the fridge! Lots of floating crud that could be cardboard but is probably pear. Aroma is farmyard fruity & some yeast. Beer is light, with a nice yeasty malt base & touch of fresh pear coming through quite clearly. A bit of sweetness but nothing like most fruit cider. The 7%ABV is well hidden with just hint of booze & this is super easy to drink. I'd like the carbonation toned down & a simple strain to get rid of the crud but overall this is one of the best Saisons I have tried. Very good.

Can. Just misted gold with a good cm of white head that lasts OK. Modest aroma with mellow citrus, herbal and slightly earthy notes, light bread. Which works a bit better in the taste as the herbal and earthy notes meet a dryish and moderately bitter end.

North End Fervour
440ml can. Pours a mild gold with strong fluffy white head. Intense citrus and stonefruit at the forward with hints of biscuity malts and sweetness behind. Medium to full body with mild carbonation. A rather unique palate for an IPA made in NZ. It has a lot more herbal and floral notes coming from odd (for ipa) hop varieties. Has hints of malts which are subdued by the herbaceous characteristics. Ever so subtle citrus behind.

North End The Bitter Sea
440ml can. Pours a deep clear mahogany with a tiny off white head. Aroma is mild with some mid roast malts. Beer is smooth but quite light with a good malty base. Be hard to pick the ABV without the can. Moderate bitterness that lingers with bit of sweetness. Probably a good example of the beer but not my cup of tea. Go with Samtzu's rating if you are a Bitter fan.

You can use the words piney, resinous, grassy, and they would not be out of place, but they are not quite right when you use them with this beer, you might have to preface them with 'slightly'.

North End Bones of the Land
440ml can. Pours a mid gold with a decent fine white head. Aroma is strong, typical Belgian beer with banana & bubblegum. Beer is medium bodied, richer than many saisons, as per the ABV, with solid backbone of malt & hops overlaid with the farmyard, spice & yeasty flavours. A sipper cf many saisons & just more full on. Interesting.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Pigs Ear 2021. Mild gusher. Pours clear, cola brown with a frothy tan head that diminishes quickly. Lightly sweet with simple brown bread, nips of cocoa, toasted toffee, mild earthy notes, some raisins and caramel. Light bodied with active, massaging carbonation. Easygoing finish, more sweet toasted brown sugars, bready malts, burnt caramel, impressions of cocoa and dark fruits. Nice and drinkable.

Big bottle thanks to cgarvieuk. Appearance - deep amber to red. Thin beige head. Nose - smells like a corked wine. Taste - again, corked wine. Funky and toffee. Palate - light to medium bodied, funky harsh edge. Overall - this seems like a beer that has reacted badly with the wood.

330ml can. Pours a pale pink with not a lot of pale head. Aroma is lime & tropical flowers with some citrus. Beer is light, lightly sour & limey. I get a bit of berry but none is noted. It's a refreshing light sour with more flavour than many beers this strength. Well done & great for hot weather.

330ml can. Pours a pale gold with a small white head. Aroma is mild with a slight herbal smell. Beer is light, with a decent malt base, subtle hops & what I assume is the coriander give a mild bitterness but full flavour profile. Lasts well. Interesting but I'm not sure a coriander spice ale is quite what I'm looking for.

North End Beach Hoist IPA
440ml can. Pours a clear gold with a little white head. Aroma is mild pine resin. Beer has a medium body with medium malt base & a lasting bitterness. Some grapefruit, pine & that bitterness. Note that they say this has been "refined over the years" so older reviews may be of a slightly different recipe. One for those who want a more traditional bitter IPA.

North End Secret Garden
440ml can. Pours a hazy pale mid gold with a monster head; 50% of the glass at fridge temperatures. Aroma is a mix of herbs & medicinal notes. Beer has a medium body & a mid roast, malt base with a bit of sweetness. The flavour over the malt is all about the botanicals. Since they don't say what they are & I'm no expert it's tough to describe. I get a more medicine/aniseed mix as opposed to the standard pantry herbs. Not much farmhouse funk. Interesting, but not really up my alley.

North End / Small Gods Sin Eater
440ml can. Pours a clear deep mahogany with almost no head that just vanishes. Aroma is mild with hints of chocolate & varnish. Beer is light in body with a slightly strange chemical taste. Bit of chocolate & med/dark roasted malt, fairly dry but there is little depth to it, perhaps the low ABV? Looks fantastic! Interesting concept for a beer, if a bit macabre. Low ABV dark beers are a tough ask & this one doesn't really do it for me. Will try another can given the other reviews.

440ml can. Pours a hazy mid brown with a small white head. Aroma is a huge waft of sweet shop & mixed dried fruit. Beer is medium bodied with a solid sweetness first up. Then I can get all sorts of candied dried fruit, peach, fig, mixed peel etc. Sweet but not sickly as a sipper. Pretty good of the style, which I admit is not quite me.

North End Fieldway APA
330ml can. Pours a not very pale at all, clear bright orange/gold. Small white head. Aroma is mild with a hint of fruit salad. Beer is light, with a fruity mix of citrus flavours, a mid malt base with not much sweetness & solid but mild bitterness. Not really a pale ale & while it's nice to be all NZ hops & malt the beer is just a bit ordinary. OK.

I get from the notes that this is a refresher and cleanser of a beer, it might just also be that I'm looking for something more, perhaps I should go and mow the lawn and have this after that, except that I'm not doing that. The taste is quite flat across the tastes, there's no rush of flavour no peak or dip and no rush at a finish, it starts as it finishes.

That is interesting. You kind of expect it to be more towards the earthy, but surprisingly and pleasingly it isn't and is more towards quite fruity and light. This isn't quite like a Saison it's a bit something else, better, and more enjoyable for that. Nice.

I taste a lot of lime in this, which isn't a bad thing, it really sits well and brings a lot of this together in quite a tasty small package. This is a more solid and fuller beer that has an inherent strenght and assuredness about it.
