3.7 Chain O' Lakes West Coast IPA Taste: roasted notes, nice hop character, mellow not super bitter finish. Allspice or clove nose. Dark copper, mostly clear, with tan delicate lattice to the head. Medium body. Earth notes and mellowness make me think of an English IPA. 72 IBUs Wednesday, September 14, 2016

3 Chain O' Lakes I'm Bock Tap at Rhythm and Booms 2015. Deep brown body. Sweet molasses aroma. Quite sweet, almost like a schwarz bock. Sweet, sugary. A little underfermented, and not much lager tone. Sunday, March 6, 2016

3.5 Chain O' Lakes SBA Rudolph The Red Nose Ale Poured from a growler, dark brown very little carbonation, no head at all. Heavy dark fruit presence, just a wee bit boozy. Flavor is raisin, cherry some candy and booze. Not as chewy as expected, but it has a nice texture. Seems to be fairly potent. No problem there. Monday, January 11, 2016

2.2 Chain O' Lakes Porter Draft. Brown pour. Not a great porter, has a autolyzed yeast problem which is common for this brewery. Thursday, June 4, 2015

2.1 Chain O' Lakes Golden Country Draft. This is your standard blonde at a mediocre brewery, light, some butter, not great. Thursday, June 4, 2015

2.7 Chain O' Lakes The Oak's Draft. Goldne pour. It is hoppier than its ipa counterpart but still the yeast issue is there. Sunday, May 31, 2015

3.3 Chain O' Lakes I'm Bock Draft. Surprisingly this lager is the best thing these guys do. Well it is a dark lager but a nice traditional us dark bock. Sunday, May 31, 2015

2.5 Chain O' Lakes Fox River Scotch Ale Draft. Amber pour, yeasty, some banana and autolyzed yeast which most of the brews here have. Sunday, May 31, 2015

3 Chain O' Lakes I'm Bock Pours a deep brown with light ruby highlights. Almost zero head but their beers tend be on the under carbonated side in my opinion. Aroma has a light nutty, smooth toasted nose with a very pronounced tett presence. Flavor starts off with a smooth earthy, noble hop Tett kick but moves into a smooth nutty/toasty character with a just a light hint of some apple fruit. Body is okay but would be better if the carbonation was kicked up a bit more. Overall one of their better brews I have had the pleasure of trying out. Tuesday, May 5, 2015

3.3 Chain O' Lakes Semper Fi Stout On tap at the taproom, in a snifter. Black pour with a nice tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and some roasted malts. Very good flavor, lightly sweet, no bitterness. Medium body, nice creamy texture, soft carbonation. This is a pretty solid beer. COL is locally owned, friendly staff and management. What’s not to like. Saturday, March 7, 2015

1.5 Chain O' Lakes SBA Black Friday IIPA Draft sampler pour at chain o lakes brewing taproom. I am speechless. Had 4 beers here and each one was awful. I don’t even know how to describe it. Smells like rotten carmel if there is such thing. Tastes like dirty diaper. Not exaggerating. Wowsers Saturday, October 4, 2014

2 Chain O' Lakes The Colonel's IPA Draft sampler pour at chain o lakes brewing taproom. Dark red with white head. Um, it’s a little bitter so maybe that makes it an ipa? Tastes like rotten prune juice. I like the bartenders but these beers they make are atrocious Saturday, October 4, 2014

3.7 Chain O' Lakes Fox River Scotch Ale Just starting to really try out new beers and this little brewery is my hometown so it was a good place to start. This beer was pretty good to me, not too heavy! Tuesday, June 10, 2014

1.2 Chain O' Lakes SBA RJ's Steamtrunk Pours a very opaque orange/copper color with a very small head and low carbonation. Aroma has a modest astringent grain nose, notes of DMS and light medicinal to follow. Flavor has a pungent medicinal/cleaner flavor followed up with a dominant astringent grain presence. Body is light/modest with not much from the carbonation. Unfortunately, this beer did not turn out. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with McKenry water, with the yeast not flocculating enough or a sanitation issue but this beer did not work for me at all. Hopefully it’s just an outlier in an otherwise good weekly offering by Chain O’Lakes. Sunday, April 13, 2014

3.5 Chain O' Lakes SBA Rudolph The Red Nose Ale Great style to have on tap for the cold months. Pours from a grumbler a deep brown with ruby notes and a huge tan head and a cool nitrogen bubble cascade. Aroma has a strong, dark fruit presence- prune, raisin and cherry, lots of caramel, light anise, very light nuttiness late with a smooth toasted malt kick late. Flavor starts off with some strong dark cherry and raisin flavors followed up quickly by a bitter grassy and sweet caramel middle with a toasted malt kick to finish. Body is hefty with very fine, slow carbonation to add a slight oiliness to the beer. Overall a pretty good brew and definitely becomes more flavorful as it warms. Tuesday, February 4, 2014

3.5 Chain O' Lakes SBA Black Friday IIPA Pours a deep black color with a very small, light tan head. Aroma has a balanced combination of roasted barley, chocolate and a modest fruity, grassy hops note. Flavor has the bitterness up front but then a hefty roasted presence breaks in, then transitions to a light dark chocolate presence and finishes with a slightly acidity imparted from the dark roasted malt. Body is modest with low carbonation, making it feel a bit oily on the palate. Overall a very nice brew. Considering the style, the hops could be a tad bit more aggressive but a very well balanced, enjoyable brew. Saturday, January 25, 2014

3.9 Chain O' Lakes Merica Prairie Pale Ale Cloudy pale yellow, medium white head. Lots of funk, sour apple, banana and clove. Taste is the same, bitter with random sweeter notes. Finishes incredibly dry. Medium carbonation, high acidity. Quite similar to a Chardonnay. Really interesting, very complex. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Tuesday, December 31, 2013
