Wellington's Beyond The Call
Bottle shared at the ChrisO Flags of Many Nations Easter Tasting 2013 - London. Vintage appx. 2004. Pours lightly hazy, dark gold with a fine, filmy white head. Nose of aged malts, leathery fruits, dried caramel. Light sweet flavor with intense yet muddled sour malts and tangy berries. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Lightly quenching sour finish, some aged caramel malt character. Interesting.

Tasting at ChrisO’s. Hazy amber beer, big pale tan head. Light palate, dry. Sweetish but tired tasting dried fruits. Light dry finish. Tastes pretty aged.

Wellington Conviction
Cask, at Newark Beer Festival, May 2004. Notes recovered from a recently unearthed old notebook. A straightforward, quite pale quaffing bitter. Moderately bitter, with more hops than malt. Solid but not too exciting.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Leicester BF. A very very dark brown coloured stout. The aroma is quite smoky with a little bitter chocolate and some light roast. The taste is very smooth. Nice chocloate and caramel notes with some light roast. Tasty with a good long finish.

Cask (gravity) at the Burton summer CAMRA festival 2005. A slightly chewy bitter, some decent malt in there but it was hard work to get any lasting flavour out of it.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel Northampton. I’ve e mailled the brewery about this one as I’m convinced it’s a Belgian Wit. A slightly hazy golden/yellow coloured beer with an aroma of spices, lemons and wheat. There is coriander and curacao in both the aroma and the taste. It’s really a lovely drink, very clean, very tasty and very moriesh. Not quite as heavily full-bodied as some wheats but perhaps the better for that. Truly lovely. Postscript: Response received from the brewery: There is minimal wheat used for head retention only, and no spices. Mainly Maris Otter Malt with Fuggles and Styrian Goldings hops. So much for my Belgian Wit theory! However it still remains a delicious beer.

Hand-pumped at Chesterfield CAMRA festival 2005. Only ordered it to use up the last token amd I happened to be stood next to the Edale section at the time but it was well worth it; a lovely light bitter, very well hopped, almost golden ale refreshing.

Edale Kinder Challenge
Apparently brewed for the Edale beer barrel race (and the beer ends up in Leicester..?). Aromas are sweet and fruity with caramel and floral notes. Flavours are buttery, with kiwi and pear. Fruity and mellow with a good dry finish. A good session bitter.

Gravity at the Birmingham Beer Festival. Black, beige ring head. Slimmish aroma. Bitter choc taste. Compared to this evening’s Milds and Porters, this is markedly heavier. Deep roasty taste. Nice.

Cask Conditioned, White Horse Hedgerley, Bucks. Gravity dispense, poured by me. A decent blond ale that just tasted a little like unfermented wort. Not really a bad thing.
