2.1 Funfair Steam Punk Porter Cask conditioned at The Turf Tavern, Oxford. Dark brown with no head. Tart nd sour flavours to the fore, fruity, skunky with a touch of cough medicine, which was handy as I had a little tickle. Poor stuff. Thursday, November 26, 2015

3.8 Funfair Ghost Train From the barrel. Pours like flat coke. Remarkable scent smoked peat ash with licorice undertones. Maybe figs. Taste is predictably malty heading toward the medicinal cough syrup registers but with fruity sweet persistence on the palate. Given that this was straight from the barrel, the aeration on the palate is striking. If Rimmer’s alter ego on "Red Dwarf" had a beer - this might be it. Smoke me a kipper I’ll be back for breakfast’ came to mind. A novelty ale God bless it. Friday, October 30, 2015

2.4 Funfair Dive Bomber Bottle from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Cloudy straw colour. Big, white, frothy head. Aroma is a bit grassy, light lemon maybe. Taste is just sour. I don’t get it. Sorry. Thursday, September 12, 2013

2 Funfair Waltzer Bottle from Atherstone Co-op. Mucky russet with a low white lid. Aroma immediately a ringer for the last Funfair beer (Dive Bomber) despite the darker colouration; lambic sourness, lime, cheese, old carpet, general wrongness dominating hazelnut and milky coffee. Marginally more drinkable taste with stabs at nuttiness and Sugar Puff sodden with rhubarb sourness and dirty, accidental yeast. Tuesday, September 10, 2013
DruncanVeasey |
2 Funfair Dive Bomber Bottle from Atherstone Co-op. Pours murky orange gold with a loose-foamed white head collapsing to a halo. Aroma of cheese spread, Drie Fonteinen, unwashed denim, lemon curd and orange squash. Odd yeast-driven flavour with TCP, strong alcoholic and phenolic notes; soggy biscuit, accidental lambic, lime streaks. Sourish and approaching flat. Feels like a fairly amateurish batch of homebrew. Barely acceptable. Tuesday, September 10, 2013
