Brewed with rice to hit lower price while the taste isn't bad for other rice-brewed lager. Syrup-like aroma, naturally, sweet as a whole. Drink it within 10 gulps, that's the fun of this beer! asedzie	3.3 Xinjiang (Sinkiang) Black Beer Bottle from grocery across from gate of Fudan University on Guoding Rd. First thing I notice about this beer is a hop aroma that is pretty unusual for a Chinese beer (perhaps the famous "Loulan" hops that are mentioned on the label). Pours reddish brown. Grassy, herbal hop aroma that I can only describe as somewhat similar to Saaz - I wonder what varietal these Loulan hops are and what their provenance is - blends nicely with a carmel maltiness in the background. Flavor is well-balanced mildly sweet and fruity caramel malt, with just the slightest touch of light hoppy tang on the sides of the mouth in the finish. A very nice amber beer from a large brewery in a predominately muslim province that is really more a part of the far eastern Middle East than China as its conventionally understood.
