Nacht van de Grote Dorst

Details

The 4th edition of the International Gueuze- & Kriek Festival of the Payottenland (better known as the Night of Great Thirst) will take place on Friday the 5th of March 2010 from 7 P.M. onwards at the church square in Eizeringen (Lennik). The festival is an organisation of the "Friends of the Gueuze" in cooperation with the High Council for Artisanal Lambic Beers (HORAL).

The festival originated on the initiative of some gueuze lovers from Belgium and from abroad who wanted to express their sympathy towards the lambic breweries because in 2004 a number of breweries were threatened to be closed by inspections of the Federal Food Agency (FFA). The conflict was caused by the ignorance of the food inspection concerning the brewing process based on spontaneous fermentation.

Fortunately the relations between the FFA and the brewery community in the Payottenland and the Valley of the Senne are normalized by now. Nevertheless it is important that in times of increasing globalization - also in the food sector - a continuous cautiousness is needed. The organizers of the festival and the High Council for Artisanal Lambic Style Beers (HORAL) want to draw the attention to the unique character of this unique beer heritage.

The list of beers available at the Night of Great Thirst is now published on www.nachtvandegrotedorst.be. For the very first time Cantillon will be present at the festival. There will be specials from Mort Subite and 3 Fonteinen, as well as 3 exclusive blends (world premiere!) from Allagash (USA).
