The Dark Horse Tap & Grille celebrates the fall season with a tap takeover featuring four seasonal beers from four different breweries and a lineup of Oktoberfest-inspired fare, including locally-sourced sausages from Lakeview’s Paulina Meat Market.

Beers include Two Brothers Atom Smasher Oak Aged Oktoberfest-Style Lager, a big oak-aged Märzen-style beer with notes of caramel and toffee; Ballast Point Dead Ringer Oktoberfest, with aromas of rich sugars, nutty toasted malts and fresh baked biscuits; Great Lakes Oktoberfest, which features vibrant malt flavors and noble hop notes; and Old Style Oktoberfest, a limited-release Märzen-style beer produced in La Crosse, Wisconsin and distributed exclusively in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota and Ohio.

Fest-inspired eats include Paulina Meat Market Bratwurst with onion confit, hot mustard, a pretzel roll and warm German potato salad; Warm Bavarian-Style Soft Pretzels with cheddar fondue, hot mustard and gruyere fondue; and Paulina Meat Market Weisswurst with barrel-aged sauerkraut and warm German potato salad.

There is no cover charge to attend. Beers range from $5-$7 each and fest food specials range from $8-$15 each. Added amenities include prizes and giveaways such as branded glassware from the participating breweries.

BEER INFORMATION/TASTING NOTES
Two Brothers Artisan Brewing, Warrenville, Illinois, Atom Smasher Oak Aged Oktoberfest Style Lager, 7.7% ABV
One of the brewery’s most popular seasonals, Atom Smasher is a big (7.7% ABV, 22.6 IBU) Märzen-style beer that is aged in oak foudres, which adds complexity. This locally-made lager features a balanced blend of caramel, toffee and earthy flavors.

Great Lakes Brewing Company, Cleveland, Ohio, Oktoberfest, 6.5% ABV
The brewery’s award-winning spin on the classic German style is brewed with Harrington 2-Row Base malt, Munich and Caramel 45 malts and Mt. Hood hops. Smooth with vibrant malt flavors and noble hop notes. Slightly sweet, honey and biscuit-like backbone, accents of spicy hop bitterness.

Ballast Point Brewing and Spirits, San Diego, California, Dead Ringer Oktoberfest Lager, 6.0% ABV
Inspired by older styles of Oktoberfest lagers that favored the sweet caramel and toffee flavors typical in darker Märzen beers. Cold-fermented; brewed with Pilsner malt, Munich malt and German Noble hops. Aromas of rich sugars, nutty toasted malts, fresh baked biscuits and reserved hop spice. Abundance of toasted malt, low hop bitterness, sweet caramel toffee flavors and aromas.

Old Style/G. Heileman Brewing Company, La Crosse, Wisconsin, Oktoberfest, 6.4% ABV
The is Old Style’s first new blend in 15 years (Old Style is now owned by Pabst Brewing Company). Oktoberfest is produced in La Crosse, Wisconsin at the City Brewery, and is only available in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota and Ohio. The brewery’s limited-release Oktoberfest is a traditional Märzen-style beer made with classic German malts and hops; complex, full bodied with a clean finish.
