While I typically support the local shop, I do occasionally order from Northern Brewer. That ends now.

Wow. I just recently bought some stuff from them when I didn’t have time to make it to the local home brew shop... Ah well.

Perhaps they will monitor what people are ordering - end then ignore it and continue to label their mostly foreign owned product "AMERICA" beer.

Should be good. More access for people, larger scope of products and more efficient operation.

Why does google buy tiny tech startups?

I think they’re doing this so that they better understand the role -- in terms of culture, education, trends and relationships -- that homebrewing plays in the craft ecosystem, and to play a role in it. It’s doubtful they’re doing this for financial or market strategy reasons.

Well, lots of craft brewers start out as homebrewers. And if they start their big beer relationship at that stage... it’s like the beer equivalent to putting your kid in an (insert cause here) onesie. Not really, but I think you get the idea- get brewers on your side from step one.

Reasons for buying it might be to close it or limit access to ingredients.

Reduce the number of home brewers and stop future craft breweries. Diabolical.

That’s a bit cynical, but if your point is that AB is now in a position to manipulate and influence the home brewing sector you are correct.
