Really? They mix this at the brewery and distribute? So what if I just mix my own dissident and abyss? Same thing, right? Can I then rate it? This seems weird to me. |
Originally posted by furthur Haha. No. Only mixes done at the brewery in the keg or a cask etc. |
Originally posted by douglas88 Why? Says right in the description it’s 50/50 mix. |
If they published the recipe do you think you could just brew it yourself and rate that? |
Originally posted by bytemesis Theyve already brewed it. I just blend it same as them. =D |
Some people seem to think that Evil Twin Yin and Yang hand-mixed together is rateable as well |
Originally posted by furthur Because it’s a site rule. Does that mean you couldn’t do it anyway without anyone knowing? No. But you could fabricate ratings without anyone knowing too, if that’s really how you want to spend your leisure time. But if you want to play by the ratebeer rules, it needs to be consumed as-is by the brewery. It’s a beer and data integrity issue. What if there was batch variation in the 50/50 brewery mix that you didn’t pick up on when you blended it with your own bottles? Then your rating would be an inaccurate review of the blend released by the brewery. EDIT: After looking it up, it looks like it is unrateable for everyone. |
I didn’t realize it was unrateable, I wonder what the story is. I basically was trying to sort out what does make a blend rateable. I’ve rated brewery "stream mixed" beers already, and then there’s the fruit additions, or randalized beers. These are all straight from the tasting room, so they’re brewer sanctioned. But that doesn’t make them rateable. Rating is a specialized game, but the Brewers make the playing field pretty muddy in places. |
Originally posted by furthur randall versions are non-rateable. Not sure what stream-mixed means. |
I thought for sure this thread was going to be about the 2009 batch of Abyss. Color me disappointed - if amused by Deschutes owning what happened and now toying with the ultimate flavor of that batch. |
What happened in ’09? |
