Hey RateBeer,

Long time admirer but first time post right now. I’ve used RateBeer as tool to find the beers I wanted to try for about 3-4 years now so this post seems a little overdue. I remember the first time I tried Westmalle Dubbel and had no idea what was happening in my mouth, ever since that moment i’ve been hooked.

Enough of my babble, i’m here to tell you about London Beer Carnival and hopefully whet your appetite with the beer lists for the festival.

So, where shall I start? Which breweries beers do you want to know of first?

P.S. feel free to ask me anything!
Stephen.

EDIT - we’ve posted some brewery lists;

Hi Stephen. When are the beer lists likely to be coming out? From the perspective of many RateBeerians - as I’m sure you’ll appreciate - there’s a concern about shelling out big bucks (and putting ourselves through a gruelling six session liver-bashing extravaganza) only to find a significant proportion of the beers are reasonably easy to get hold of elsewhere, or we’ve already had them. I’ve experienced this before with a number of the newer style, pay in advance, festivals where the advance publicity is just along the lines of "look at all these awesome breweries we’ve got signed up" but the pickings turn out to be, in reality, rather slim.

As an aside, thoughts on moving this to the UK forum?

I haven’t pulled the trigger on which session(s) I am attending so would love to see the full beer list when it is available to make my decision easier Stephano!

Hey Chris,

I thought it might be an idea for me to let all the RateBeerians know bit by bit, a drip feed, if you will of the beers. Let’s start this now. The exact sessions of these beers are to be announced here’s some of what we’ll have on tap from Cigar City...

Invasion - 5% American Pale Ale
Jai Alai - 7.5% IPA
Maduro Brown Ale - 5.5% Brown Ale
Marshal Zhukov’s - 11% Imperial Stout
Coffee Aged Marshal Zhukov’s - like above, but with coffee!
Sherry Aged Marshal Zhukov’s - like above, but with Sherry!

So there we have it. 6 of the 12 beers Cigar City are bringing.... want to see the next six?

Out of interest, exactly WHY do you think this is the best way to let RateBeerians know about the beers - drip, drip drip? It’s pretty much exactly the opposite way to get most RB people I know on-side with your event. But carry on - I’m sure you know best.

In practical terms, it would be most useful to know as many of the beers as possible, as soon as possible. It would also be helpful to know during which session which beers will be available. There are many people - myself included - whose decision to attend will be contingent on knowing which beers are available, and when.

Personally, I don’t really see much advantage, if any, of releasing the beer list piecemeal. Unless, of course, not all the beers have been decided upon, in which case you have no option but to release the beer list gradually.
