This is an absolutely fantastic idea! I never really knew Simon. Read his blog but only met him once or twice. I have been moved though by all the threads, messages, thoughts and photo’s posted since his passing. I will be raising a glass with you all. |
I have just logged on to Ratebeer for the first time since May only to read this terrible news. Simon was a truly wonderful man: funny, kind, clever and warm. The best writer on beer I ever read. Great memories of Sheffield, Derby, Peterborough and many other places. |
Already got a few treats up my sleeve for this event. All I know is that I will send Simon off with the best line up he would appreciate. Ok it’s Thornbridge heavy but you’d already guessed that. I will only drink beers I know he and I liked. So Jaipur and Orval will definitely be making an appearance. |
I made sure I picked up something Thornbridge (and a new rate) at Cotteridge last week. |
Tits - he hadn’t rated it. |
I have my last bottle of the very first batch of Bracia complete with its £4.99 price tag, so I think that will go down well, along with Orval and maybe a bottle of Marble Dobber. We once met Simon in The Flowerpot where he sank pint after pint of the Dobber I was mightily impressed with his ability to sink so many that day and appear none the worse. |
bump. Reminder this is this friday evening. |
Originally posted by harrisoni am hoping halcyon will be on in barley mow bristol (though techically simon rated the retired thornbridge/epic version) |
Thanks for the reminder Ian, I will pack my last remaining original Bracia (has anyone else got one of the original batch left?) along with a Dobber and of course an Orval, I don’t think that I could stop at just one decent beer and I know Simon wouldn’t want me to. |
Struggling to find a new rate for me that Simon had rated, certainly nothing in my outhouse! |
