Just saw this. Looks like the city is getting ambitious. I’ll be really curious to see how this goes and if they run it like GABF with unlimited samples as opposed to most smaller festivals in the state that require drink tickets.

State law is the guideline fof the drink tickets.

Just curious, do you know when that law was passed? As recently as November of 2011, the Monsters of Beer festival in Houston had an entry fee with a tasting cup and unlimited samples.

One way or another:

1)You can most often buy unlimited tickets

but

2) if someone thinks you have over imbibed you will be stopped

3) or escorted out

or

4) arrested for PI

It’s not a recent law, and I can confirm it does exist. Ask any TABC officer familiar with festivals in Texas. Trust me I’ve investigated this thoroughly. Just because something was done (and no one was caught doing it) does not mean it’s legal. Plenty of people speed every day, but that doesn’t mean they’re not breaking the law.

Completely valid point, and I’m certainly not saying you’re wrong. But I do find it hard to believe a beer festival, even the size of Monsters of Beer, wouldn’t be on the TABC radar to a point where that law would be blatantly ignored.

Either way, it looks pretty ambitious and I’m interested to see how Big Brew Houston goes.

They’re doing 1oz tasters, and offer 24 with admission. Here’s the info:
