My question is where would be the best place to get a room that is centrally located to the restaurant and some good beer spots in the city. Also which airport is best to fly into?

Not necessarily... Newark Airport to NY Penn is like a 30 minute train ride. Probably easier than navigating subways for an out-of-towner.

Message rhino8888 14:52 Wed 1/14/2015 I like to stay at The Jane Hotel in Chelsea when I’m in NYC. Quirky decor, good views of the river, right on the Highline park and has a great cafe on the 1st floor, Cafe Gitane. I get one of the tiny cabin rooms (inexpensive, shared bathrooms) when I’m paying my own way. When work is paying the bill I get one of fancy captains rooms (private bath and nice views). There are several good beer destinations within 15 min walking distance: Colicchio & Sons, Blind Tiger, and 124 Old Rabbit Club. Keep walking another 15 min into the East Village and you’ve got Jimmys 43, Burp Castle and d.b.a.
