I will be in Brussels March 12th leaving March 14th. I wanted to see if you guys could help me with a hotel location. I was looking at the Midi area so i don’t have to drag my bags all around. (some say it is not to safe) I will be traveling alone. Or would you suggest Grand Palace area?? I would be up for meeting some of the local folks. let me know I can bring over some american beers as well. Any feedback would be great.

Thanks Jeremy

Don’t bother overpaying to stay in the Grand Place area, the distances aren’t that big in Brussels.

Yeah, avoid the Grand Place area. I don’t know a particular hotel, but you may want to check booking.com for a good deal. Let me know if you want to meet for a drink.

I just rented a studio for March 15-18th through airbnb (www.airbnb.com). Prices were cheap compared to hotels, comments are good and it’s not too far away from the center (10-15 minutes walk).

Of course, you could also book a cheaper B&B just outside Brussels - for instance in the Pajottenland, a.k.a. lambik land. There are plenty that are walking distance to train stations that get you to Brussels Midi in 10-15 minutes, which is then just a 10 minute walk from Cantillon & Moeder Lambic.

Example: http://www.zenyourlife.be/EN/BandB/ or try this site: http://www.bedandbreakfast.eu/bed-and-breakfast/westende-bad/t-pajottenland/204431/

Of course, to take full advantage of the pubs and castles in that area, a car is ideal. Or you can rent a scooter, like many people do for the Tour de Geuze: http://www.scootertours.be/welkom

More B&Bs within easy reach of Brussels, but this site is in Flemish: http://www.toerisme-pajottenland.be/NL/24/48/bezienswaardigheden_groups/40/B%26B.htm

You can check this URL. It’s an Official website for bed & breakfast in Brussels

I’ve also had good luck with Air B&B. And booking.com.

Staying near the Grand Place isn’t necessarily expensive, but I concur with others that it’s not necessary. You can walk. On the other hand, there is no point in staying near Midi. You can get there easily enough via trams etc.
