This is a formal announcement of a feature we debuted last week.
Acknowledging that RateBeer also serves a much larger community than reviewers, we’ve launched a service that allows people to "tick" beers on a one to five star scale.
The feature can be used by new users and non-reviewers to remind them what they’ve had and what liked and may in the feature be used to help us recommend beers to them.
It also is meant to serve the existing ticking community, a group of people, largely in England, who check off beers they’ve had and may not take any other notes on the beer.
For reviewers, ticking a beer can serve as a shorthand for a review, that can be written in detail in the future -- great for mobile and social use.
Very important to ticking’s acceptance here at RateBeer is that there will be no statistics, lists or other reputation weight given to ticks. The quality of our beer scores will not in any way be affected by the feature. We feel the minimum character counts and mandatory attribute rating ensures a better quality assessment that we’re able to turn around share with the larger community and stand behind as some of the most trusted ratings on the internet.
Enjoy!

I want 1/2 stars. Full stars is silly, just like how Netflix does. I still do use it occasionally. BTW, why the hell did somebody resurrect this four month old post?

Awesome to have the ability to go that route if desired. Let’s just not have this thread turn into which one is better. To each their own.
