Hey guys,
Visiting my sister in Ikebukuro, first time in Japan. Will be in Tokyo most days 7/25 - 8/14.
1) Do you have a favorite steak place that isn’t ¥30,000pp or I can do solo? Places like Dons de la Nature look incredible, but they’re set 400g menu are impossibly large for me on my own and my sister has no interest in steak.
2) Our schedule is pretty full but I’d be excited to meet up for a drink. Evenings of 8/2 and 8/12 are pretty open for me right now. If other nights work better, let me know.
Cheers,
Kevin

Hi Kevin, I’m pretty useless as far as this is concerned. I’m a vegetarian so know nothing about steak places and will be on holiday myself during those dates. In any case, hope you have a good time and I’m sure some others on here will be able to give you some good advice. Neil

Steak - I am really surprised you can’t find anything under 30,000 yen. That seems incredibly expensive for even the top quality steak, unless you are having Japanese beer (Wagyu) Places to consider Wolfgangs (luckily no relation to Wolfgang Puck) though seems like two or more people is best. http://wolfgangssteakhouse.jp/menu/ Ruby Jacks http://rubyjacks.jp/en/ - Never been, but I have been to sister restraunts/bars/night club (R2 and Two Rooms) and I personally rate the steak very high and I like the food, but many friends say good, but not quit top tier. I think the food menu at all three places is the same, but you can check that out online. Ruby is the only one that advertises itself as a steakhouse. I am sure a search on line will get a few more results. Might be able to meet on one of those nights. Lets touch base last week of July and I will see how my schedule looks. Tim

If you are looking for a steak place serving craft beer on reasonable budget, here are a few ones that came to my mind: ROTI (Roppongi) Popular American restaurant with good steak and grilled food, serves 6 taps of Californian craft. Pricing $$ http://www.roti.jp/ BEACON (Omotesando) Upscale steakhouse quite popular for brunch, serves 3 taps of TY Harbor (local brewery). Pricing $$$ https://www.tysons.jp/beacon/ GREEN BASHAMICHI (Yokohama) Nice local BBQ joint with tasty grilled meats, serves 4 taps of craft. Pricing $ http://bashamichi.greenyokohama.com/ A few more for meat cravings: BURGERMANIA (Ebisu) Popular local burger joint, serves 6 taps of craft (mixed JP/US). Pricing $ http://www.burger-mania.com/ HATOS BAR (Daikanyama) Nice little BBQ joint with a popular baby back rib. Serves 5 taps of craft (mixed JP/US). Pricing $$ http://hatosbar.com/

What do you think some of the best burgers are that you have had in Japan?
There are lots of good burgers near Gaienmae station in Tokyo, and there are lots of solid examples, but the one burger, although a bit tiny, is from World Wine Bar in Shin-Marunouchi Building (same kitchen as Salt, but half the price). Wagyu burgers are very good IMO and WWB takes it to the next level. Lunch it is about 1500 yen with appetizer and fries.
Roti is my standby where I probably have eaten more burger in my life than anywhere else.

Tough question but an exciting topic :) I’d say ROTI and BURGERMANIA are my go-to places as they are quite central and have a decent tap list to fully complete the experience. BLACOWS in Ebisu is usually excellent (using kuroge wagyu), THE GREAT BURGER in Omotesando is almost as solid as its name, and I used to order delivery at BROZERS in Nihonbashi quite often. I also quite enjoy places with more signature recipes such as ARMS in Yoyogi (spinach bacon), FIREHOUSE near Tokyo Dome (mozzarella mushroom) and AUTHENTIC in Akasaka (broccoli!). As with craft beer, the list is pretty much endless and that sounds like infinite fun to me. I’ll definitely visit the one you suggested too, probably very soon as I salivate on my keyboard right now :)

Awesome suggestions, thanks so much! Blacows is on our list!
