Common Roots is a staple neighborhood coffeeshop and cafe. The food is decent and generally probably overpriced for the quality. It’s a good place to keep tabs on when there are thinly distributed kegs floating around, for example, Todd the Axe Man made an appearance here recently. Good deals on pints during happy hour.

8 taps 6-7 of which are locals that aren’t usually all seen on the same rack. They get some limited release from locals. Don’t expect the hipster staff to have great beer knowledge but they can give a sample if you’re kind. Food is good but pricey just like the beer. This is a coffee shop/café that sells beer and as such the ambiance is more chill with laptops and good conversation rather than music.

I live a block away, They maybe have 8 taps, several with Surly. In this neighborhood, it isn’t a big deal. The Bulldog is literally across the street. Be clear, it is a restaurant, not a bar. They have an occasional beer event, like a limited Surly release. Beers are expensive. I have not eaten there yet. It is a nice place, and I recommend it, even if not necessarily for a great place to find beer. update August 2010. Tried the food, very good, but also expensive. Mostly, if not all organic. Three Surly taps and a few other beers mean you can find something good to drink with your meal, or to wash down your latte, or dessert.

Cool cafe/restaurant that serves some good local beers. Better known for thier local and organic foods. Fun and eclectic. A place to come and do some work on your laptop sipping coffee and then transition to beers later in the day. Update: 10/27/10. There to grab some Surly 3 and Darkness. 3 was poured into a pint glass (score!) and later Darkness was poured into a wine like stemless glass with a HUGE head, I’m talking half the glass was head. We were advised the head would settle, gee thanks! This place is more of a restaurant and coffee bar with lots of people working on their computers. Pretty chill and laid back. No bar area and seating can be a little tough.
