70 Out with 3 mates and as per my previous place rating we were now on the search for 'proper beer'. As soon as he spotted the old school pub exterior my mate perked up. We then entered the chic trendy interior and I instantly felt the jagged shiv repeatedly entering my lower back. And then we ordered beers. I apologised for the lack of London Pride and was told that the beer he was drinking (one of the two casks) was lovely buy I could have asked permission before drinking. At thus stage it wad guaranteed I was going to have some so that wad taking it a bit far. Anyway a lovely looking pub and it's a pity the interior is so modern. Decent enough array of beers. Very popular by early evening on a Friday. |
72 Welcoming old-school corner pub with a friendly service and a good selection at very reasonable prices and a good atmosphere. If a somewhat dark typical pub is interesting for you, this is a good place to have a beer. |
78 Visited on January 2018. Typical english pub decoration. Quiet place (Monday afternoon) and a good spot to have a couple of beers. Next one please! |
90 Excellent corner pub, just off the main drag from Shoreditch to Bethnal Green. It’s a 10-15 minute walk from BG tube station or Shoreditch overground but worth it when you get there. Sympathetically restored wooden interior with a central bar and seating all around. The frenetic pace of London life seems to go out of the window here, it’s welcoming as your local pub even if you’ve come from a long way away. Beer choice of around 20 on cask & keg, plus extensive bottle fridges. One of my favourite drinking holes in London |
72 Cozy corner pub with a good selection and variation. |
70 Being a sister it has all the tell-tale signs of the Earl of Essex in Islington and the Mermaid in nearby Clapton (which I have added to Ratebeer). Usual good choice of beers local and foreign. Plus several bottles and cans. |
86 Small pub just one block away from the main street, but it already breathes a lot more quietness and slower pace. Seems to really be your local pub. Reasonable draft and cask selection and some very nice stuff on bottle/can as well. Dont know how quickly it rotates, but I liked the atmosphere a lot (although even on an early friday afternoon). |
80 Quite a simple, a bit offroad pub. Very surprising taplist, and surprising stuff in their fridge (for instance, Perennial when we were there). They have small pours and the service is quick. We had quite some fun here. |
80 Very nice semi-classic pub in a slightly unexpected location. Very friendly, helpful and friendly service. Mostly craft beer kegs but also some casks. Me like. |
84 Nice place. Decent selection of stuff on tap and a nice looking bottle list. Real pub feel. Will definitely be going back. |
