Palace (Nicholson’s)

Nice old pub. Free O2 WiFi. A half pint was 2.10. Decent selection of handpulled beers but no real surprises for me.

No longer a nicolsins as of about a year ago(early 16) Old fashuoned wooden bar. KID friendly... 10 plus handpulls from the boring to mid range. Best being roosters.. Which is always acceptable.

Still part of the Nicholson’s parent company but now branded under another one of its pub groups, it no longer carries the Nicholson’s branding. This pub in its own building is in a relatively lonesome spot between the Bus Station and railway arches, and the river - next to St Peters Church. Although the ground floor space is large with the main spaces either side of a central bar that greets you when you walk in, it feels like it should be bigger given the size of the building. The traditional design and decor is nice enough although for a former Nicholson’s pub it does feel a little worn and not as sumptuous as you are used to with this chain. The cask options are aplenty with a long row of real ales in the centre of the bar. Food is served here and there’s plenty of breathing space as far as the outdoor areas are concerned which is not often found in abundance in city centre establishments.

Multiroomed street corner pub about 10 minutes walk from the railway station. The best part is perhaps two lovely patios on each side of the pub. Airy and clean as most of the pubs belonging to the Nicholson’s pub chain. A long bar displaying 10 hand pumps more or less similar to others pubs in the chain in Leeds. I had cask ales from Roosters, Broughton, Leeds Brewery and a Bass. Very peaceful and relaxing before noon (visited 12.07.2012).

We (me, dad and Barry) visited here on Sunday 18th March 2012. The beer choice was fine if a little uninspriring, I think that this place must have changed somewhat since the previous folks have visited as it is now a Nicholsons pub as I recall. I had a Darkangel cherry porter which was fine, other beers on offer were Itchen Valley Treacle Stout and Roosters True Grit, all fine. I guess that Nicholsons have spent some on thie place but it still looked just a tad tired to me. Interesting and perfectly fine establishment but not sure that I would go out of my way to wander down here.

Old pub, an old Melbourne’s house, situated just outside the old city boundary next to a church. It’s been opened out inside but retains a cosy feel and has received an "alehouse" style makeover with wooden floors and many handpulls. There are usually ten beers on sale and some winners often lurk amongst them, always a guest mild available too. The food is filling and cheap, just what you need when on a crawl. Probably my favourite Leeds pub and the best it’s ever been now.

Busy, busy, busy pub on the weekday lunchtime I went. Sat outside despite it being December. Beers were in great shape, pleasant staff, if you’re roped into a Leeds crawl then this is a winning venue for you.

One of Leeds premier beer spots. Draught Bass and Tetley Bitter are regulars, the rest are from varying micros. Beer was in tip top condition although I’m not sure there were as many as 9 beers on when I visited. Situated on the edge of the city centre, which provides a mixed clientele and gives the place a nice feel. Very busy on the Wednesday night I visited - the place was packing them in for the quiz night. No chance of getting a seat, but we were quite a large group and resorted to sitting outside some of the time. Fortunately it had stopped raining. Considering the size of our group and the business of the pub, tthe bar staff did an admirable job of keeping us supplied. Its a fair sized, early Victorian place, although the interior has clearly been knocked about a bit. As it was dark when we arrived and the place was packed, I didn’t really notice much else about the architecture. An essential stop if in Leeds.
