86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 20/20 Arctium_lappa (4) , England | November 15, 2012 Just about everything a British country pub should be. Select the Son of Sid brews if you can, and go for Muckcart Mild (if available) as the definitive mild ale, putting the lie to this style being dull. The first review is correct on all counts and fortunately I live within 10km of this remarkable place | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 Fin (368) Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | October 6, 2009 Visited here twice in the last few months, most recently last weekend 01-10-09 to 02-10-09 as they were holding their very first beer festival at the pub. Bob and Wendy (landlord and landlady) go out of there way to be welcoming, showing us around the brewery when we visited both this time & in June. The food is also top notch, ok so there is only one choice and its only on a Friday but the ’Fish and Chips is amongst the best I’ve ever had, everything that accompanies the whale sized piece of fish is homemade. The pub is also very much unspolit for the majority of the interior and has a roaring fire and settkles. The regulars are as welcoming as both Wendy and Bob and in short this has to be quite easily amongst my favourite UK pubs. Btw the ’Son od Sid’ Beers that Bob brews are also very good as well. |
