Big and somewhat noisy place with marble all around. Polite and efficient service. Big selection, but several casks were not good. Whether it’s because of the handling or it was poor from the start I can’t tell, but I blaim the pub. A bit expensive. Poor food including burned toast.

Situated in a fantastic grand hall with marble pillars and walls throughout this is a beautiful place to eat or drink. At there back there is also a marble balcony overlooking proceedings but sadly it’s often blocked by a staff only sign. The bar is central to proceedings with a whopping four rows of real ales situated around its oval shape. It’s rare to see them all full or even half full though, but it still offers a good choice. It’s more expensive than usual being situated in the heart of London’s financial district. The carpet incorporates the crosse keys logo.

JDWs flagship in London, located in a former palatial bank building in the City. Five sets with mostly five hand pumps in each of them. Every thing is really big here, even the toilet room. Nothing to complain about when it comes to Wetherspoons traditional English breakfast. Good for watching football on wide screen, but close during the weekends. Well worth visiting especially when the JDWs seasonal real ale festivals are on. Even though we so far had sampled 34 festival ales (of 50), we found six more here (visited 05.11.2012).

Huge place in an old bank building, often regarded as the flagship Wetherspoons. The architecture is spectacular but the identikit Wetherspoons fit-out robs it of much of its character. The beer range is much bigger than the norm, with 24 taps (although not all always with different beers) and it’s a good place to pick up lots of beers at festival time. Service can be spotty, especially when it’s packed with the after work crowd from the nearby offices. Which it often is.

Yep, its a J-Dub pub but at least you know what you’re getting. Huge cask selection but really only worth checking during festival time, unless extremely lucky, you may find something worth drinking if you pop in for a quick look. Always busy with the city crowd, not surprisingly considering the location. Plenty of seating options, spacious old bank venue. Cheap eats etc. Service can be pretty bad, just shout out the number of the beer you’re after that’s displayed on the monitor above the bar.

Well, it’s a Wetherspoons, so you know pretty much what you are getting beer and food wise. Prices are good especially for the area and it is a massive place with plenty of seating so probably wouldn’t feel too crowded even at its busiest, except maybe at the bar. 24 casks, but this is let down somewhat by the fact that when I visited during the beer festival there were only 13 on, which was a bit of a disappointment. It was the weekend though, and I imagine that is not their busiest time. Most of the stuff they did have on was pretty similar but can’t blame the pub for this as the beer fest beer list was very much dominated by bitters.

This Spoons is located in an old bank and the space is quite unique. It’s huge, and yet at times still feels cramped (especially at the bar). The beers are pretty standard Spoons fare, and usually in fine condition. The selection is decent. While there are 24 hand-pumps, at least six of those are always something very standard (e.g. Fullers London Pride, Green King IPA, etc.). It’s worth noting, anyway, that with 24 pumps this place boasts the most casks on at one pub (in London). I’ve been unimpressed by the staff and their efficiency on several occasions. Whoever manages the pub seems to never staff adequately during peak hours. All in all not a bad pub and certainly one of the best Spoons pubs in London. A great place to go during the Spoons fests as you will be able to tick a good chunk of the list in one visit. Check it out.

The best thing about this pub is that I had a good view of a huge telly where I could see london burn during the riots. The staff were invisible, or I was, not sure which. When I eventually got beers, fewer ticks than any other pub I’d been to that week, they were basically off. Even the beer that they put on while I was there was off. The place is beautiful, no doubt about that, but everything else about the pub smacks of all that’s bad about McSpoons. Thank god it’s cheap spoons prices, otherwise I’d have trashed the place in this review.

Good position for my walk from Bank to Fenchurch Street stations. Huge Wetherspoons, with 24 handpulls. 16 active when I visited, 12 ales, 2 cider and 2 perry. The only spoiler was the service was slow and it wasn’t busy.

Interior is absolutely stunning, especially the huge circle bar in the middle of the place. Prices are surprisingly cheap. They have a decent selection of casks including some rare brews. Worth going after the working hours for more ambiance.
