60 Disclaimer: there were no tables available for two hours but feel I saw enough to give an update on the minimalist review from 2012. A lovely old building in an equally lovely village setting. However it is a small building ans being fully booked it was clear that the tables are all crammed in. This is part of a chain of around 8 pubs. I reviewed the Exchequer in Crookham Village recently and beerwise it’s a similar set up: although the focus is on food the beer is not an afterthought. Four taps, one was off, the house Andwell Red Mist, Little Beer Haka and AN Other. A couple of not notsostandard regular kegs, for instance Grimbergan Blonde. However unless you wanted to go outside there nowhere to drink. If less busy it may not be an issue, but today the barman explained that they were having to sit a couple of diners at the bar itself. By the way, the barman was very helpful, suggesting some local walks to kill time and explaining that children were very welcome. With so many pubs in the area I am intending to check out am not sure when I’d go back, but perhaps if I was in the vicinity and it wasn’t half term. |
72 A village pub that has food as its main fayre but still has a traditional bar with stools, snacks and well kept beer. |
