Pours amber with a small fading head. Nose caramel, bready malt, golden syrup, and earthy hops. Flavours include more of the bready malt along with lovely herbal and earthy hops, and a faint bit of malt sweetness in the finish.

Boatrocker Belgium Calling
BB 26/09/24. From a can poured a cloudy (translucent under strong light) golden-amber with 5mm of bright white dense foam that diminished slowly to a blotchy cap that laced OK. Carbonation high, lively and medium-sized. Aroma moderately strong of wheat characters (cloves, maybe hints of banana) and slight malt; slight sweetness. Taste slightly of peppery spices and slightly tart with cloves coming through as it warms. Light to medium body. Smooth, crisp and clean with a medium-length finish. OK but not my style.

Boatrocker XPA
Nice balanced aroma of pine, mango and a little grape, but it's pure XPA in the mouth. Heaps of grapefruit and pine overwhelm everything else, but I like it. got some real guts.

Bottle. Amber with a coat of white head. Yes, smells of oranges and cardamom, a little biscuit. Cardamom is not shy, so it's good that it's not too prominent. Light bodied. Softy tart with wheaten crackers, old blood oranges and spices. Mellow and well-balanced.

Carwyn's Canvent, early. 9C. Clear copper with a beige head that's regrettably brief. Slightly creamy aroma of singed toffee. Hints of prunes and spices. Full bodied, medium low carbonation. Rich but neither heavy nor that sweet. Singed toffee, slightly smokey with creeping peppery bitterness at the end. Just is. Very good.

Can, 10C. Copper with a pale beige head that doesn't last. Aroma is spicy and bready with some biscuit. Dry with biscuit and bread before earthy and spicy bitterness. I was expecting a riff on Landlord but this is OK if not that.

Can. Poured in a Tripel Karmeliet thistle style glass because that's never not funny. Very dark brown with a tan head that's soon a coat. Aroma of strong bread, caramel, whisky, some Port. Smooth, creamy with lowish carbonation. Fairly sweet with toffee, toast, whisky, vanilla oak, some other spices. Bitterness waits to creep up then does just enough to keep the sweetness from overstaying. Big for 6.5%. Fine balance, good beer.

Boatrocker B.A. Extra Special Bitter
Surely an ESA? Can. Started at 10C, probably too cold. Murky amber. A white head struggles to form. 3- Aroma of biscuit, vanilla, whisky, lemon, spices. Fills out a lot in the taste with booming whisky and warmth, light biscuit, lightening citrus, a nip of insistent spices and bitterness that's just enough to round things up at the end. Grand.

Boatrocker B.A. Extra Special Bitter
This strong ESB has been aged in Starward Whisky barrel, for a great take on the English classic. Aroma of toasted bread, marmalade, little caramel, fruity esters, floral hops. Pours murky copper, not particularly carbonated, small white head with low retention. Medium bitterness, toasted bread, whisky (strong), vanilla, wood, spicy notes from the wood, light caramel. Great flavour, round and balanced. Full body, with some light carbonation that helps refreshing this rather boozy drink, as it does feel boozy! An excellent brew from an excellent brewery. I like this take on a bitter making it strong and NOT sessionable.

Can. I guess they really used the h2g2 cover. Clear deep copper with a coat of beige head that hangs on at the rim. Aroma of dried and some stewed fruit, strong bread, flowers, some pudding spices. Rich but not unduly sweet with firm bitterness. Dried fruit, strong bread, Seville orange peel. Alcohol edges up towards obvious. Layers of malt but not heavy and has character as well as weight.

Boatrocker Flowers for Brains
Can. Almost clear gold with a rocky white head. Tropical aroma with firm crackery malt behind. The additions are apparently lime and coconut but don't stick out unduly. Quite sweet upon a taste and the coconut is more obvious before tropical fruit and a finish that just burns a little. The lime registers right at the end.

Boatrocker Chocolate Stout
Can. Black with a light tan head that settles to a cm. A real rich chocolate aroma with roast and light spices behind. Prominent but not quite dominant chocolate is very nice with smooth bready malt and spicy bitterness. The packaging says it’s trying to be a stronger, fancier Young’s - and it is. Perhaps lacks its magical balance but very good.

Boatrocker Robot Overlords
375ml can from Malt Traders in Market Street on 1 July 2023. This is my 25th beer from Boatrocker Brewing Company. I wouldn’t have thought I have drank so many of their beers but it’s funny how the numbers creep up over the years. Yet another hazy IPA with a juicy appearance, bright sunshine colour and clean white head. While the beer looks good when poured into a glass it also smells good and tastes good with aromas and flavours of pineapple, mango and melon. Medium to full bodied in the mouth with a slight trace of sweetness in the finish. Mildly bitter and a very enjoyable beer for a Saturday afternoon.

From a can poured a dark brown (mahogany under strong light) with 5mm of tan dense foam that retained very well and laced poorly. Carbonation low, average and medium to coarse. Aroma strongly of sweet caramel with hints of roasted malts; sweetness dominates. Taste is strong of caramel and toffee; too sweet which dominates. Light body, slightly syrupy. Smooth and clean with a short finish. Very sweet.

Boatrocker Ramjet 2022 (Starward)
Boatroaker's iconic Imperial Stout brewed in 2022 (which is as well their 10th anniversary) has spent 6 months in Starward Australian whisky barrels. Great to see this in a small can! Aroma exhales darkness, maillard, roasted barley, dark chocolate, vanilla, licorice, herbal hops. Pours as black as can be, small beige head, retention along the glass, legs as well. Bitter, roasty, low sweetness, big maillard products, caramel, roasted cocoa beans, dark chocolate, chocolate cookies, vanillin, whisky. Very clean and smooth, besides all this paraphernalia. Charred after-taste. Full body, oily, low carbonation, boozy but "affordable". Last Ramjet I tried was 2019 if I'm not wrong, after knowing this brewery at a beer festival. It was a bottle smuggled from Australia in 2020. And it was great. This is a different version, different year, and in different mouth, but still outstanding.

Can. Clear amber with a loosish beige head. Aroma of breadcrust, grapefruit, light spices. So it tastes but it's rather empty with caramel where you'd hop for a bit more malt presence. Modest bitterness. Fair enough.

From a 375ml can on 27/4/2023. Pours a super dark amber with a medium head. Has a mild malty nose, with a touch of caramel and some nuts. The same appears in the flavour, along with a touch of dried fruit. moderately hoppy and enough o keep it interesting Medium bodied with average carbonation. Pretty solid if not particularly notable.

Boatrocker Feel Good IPA
Can design is a tribute to Seinfeld for some reason. Clear pale amber with a 2cm white head. Aroma of pine, breadcrust and grapefruit, hints of tropical fruit and weeds. Light bodied. A little sweet and more tropical than guessed from the aroma. Plainish apart from the hops but the pine gradually imposes itself towards the fairly bitter finish. Good, if a bit clinical.

Boatrocker Have a Nice Day Fruited Sour Ale
Can, out of date by a few weeks. Cloudy amber with a white head. 3+ Aroma of apricots and tart blood plums, crackers. 7+ Light bodied but slightly creamy. Fruit is less prominent than suggested by the aroma (which is fine). Soft, light crackery bread, gentle sourness, twiggy spices, then just a little sweet and tart fruit. Elegant and refreshing.

Tin from Beer Jerks 2022 Xmas Advent Calendar : nice gold-yellow colour , clear , languid lazy beads , persistent good white foam ... estery/yeasty aroma ... taste of esters/bananas/cloves , typical of Begian tripels , but flavour intensity not quite there , you don't notice the hefty 9.2 % alcohol , it's a well balanced beer , I do like it : cheers team !

Can. Moderately hazy orange with a loosish white head. Highly tropical aroma with lychees, guava and some stinky overripe pineapple. A little citrus edge keeps it together. A little more body that expected. Only a little unclean - somewhat chewed crackery malt - and bursting with fruit. Verges on burning at the end but avoids it. Pretty good but not quite for me.
