This draft brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a softly carbonated transparent copper brown colored body. The weak aroma was brown malt. The thin mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start with a roasted malty note and mediumly tingly at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of roasted malt and hops. An OK brew just nothing special.

Brickworks Harvest Peach Wheat
Sampled on tap at the Illiana MayFest (Crown Point, IN). Pours a fairly clear golden hue, a small white head sits atop and laces a bit as it dies to a film. Aromas are strong peach presence, some wheat bread and cereal malts beneath but the peach really takes it to you and cleans out the other elements. Initial is more peach, the actual wheat elements of the beer remained covered up, without any fruity esters, clove or much wheat malt shining through. Like pale and bready features with a sweeter slanted fruity peach taking the dominant role. Finish is sweet, but not quite to the cloying phase. A decent fruit wheat, just not really my thing. I do like peaches though, so it probably won an extra point there.

Brickworks Rag Doll Rye
Sampled on tap at the Illiana MayFest (Crown Point, IN). Pours a coppery hue, darker with a decent haze, red flying throughout. A small offwhite head sits atop and dies to a film. Aromas are mellow rye bread malts, caramel, toffee, minimal hop presence is a faint floral aspect with more rye bread, a mellow sweetness prevailing. Initial is quite simple, rye and caramel mix with a very light hop presence, bready and a touch of toast. This could have used an amped up hop presence, as it falls into the underhopped Amber category, just with some mellower tell-tale rye malts moving into place.a A bit dissapointing for what it was. More hops, please.

Brickworks Der Kaiser Weizenbock
Sampled on tap at the Illiana MayFest (Crown Point, IN). Poured a darker brownish copper, darker and hazy, with a small offwhite head that dies to a small film that clings to the edges. Aromas are a decent estery base, banana and apple, with some darker caramel, brown sugar, and toffee. A touch of toast, wheat bread, and some light booziness work their way in. The esters and darker sweeter malts are most memorable, lying beneath is that warming alcohol and a light bitterness in the finish. Not bad, a decent beer for a style I generally shy away from.

Brickworks MartyFest Cream Ale
Sampled on tap at the Illiana MayFest (Crown Point, IN). Pours a yellowish light hold, just a touch of haze, creamy bright white head that dies to a film, laces ok. Aromas are grainy cereal malts, a touch of bready sweetness, faint floral hopping, simple yet nothing offensive. Initial is similar, a light cereal malt, bread, cracker, and touch of honey sweetness mixes with a touch of floral grassy hop character. Clean and refreshing, a touch metallic, the beer is not bad and it’s nice to see a 3.3 beer around. For what it is, it isn’t bad at all.

I’m pretty sure I saw the girl pour my glass from a pitcher at the end of the bar, but whatever... Had a better hop aroma than I expected (given that it came from a pitcher...grrr) flavor was much the same... Mild citrus hop profile with a nice toasty malt backbone. All in all much better than I expected

Brickworks Assimilation Oatmeal Stout
"Good ol’ fashioned sweet style stout, no bells and whistles... just done right. Midnight brown body, thick and lasting tan head with streaks of lacing. Milk chocolate and coffee aroma with enough toasted/roasted malts to keep my sniffing. Medium and drinkable with a very robust creaminess. Dry roasted malt flavor that’s nutty, chocolaty, and velvety good."

Brickworks Wind Chill Factor Spiced Winter Ale
Tap: Deep coppery amber hue with a very nice creamy head and lacework. The aroma has clove, cinnamon toast, nutmeg and allspice at the forefront. Smells a like a fruitcake with some toffee, caramel, and honey tones over fig and pears. The taste is spicy as expected along with a slight fruity twang, honeycomb cereal and classic English Fruit Cake is what you have here. All that but it never went over the top, not overly sweet or smashed faced spicy. Oh, there is some faint bitterness and a moderate boozy tone that likely kept it in check as well. The mouth feel is smooth and creamy with a spicy dry finish and a mild warming character. A wonderful holiday beer even if a few months too late, the best beer I have had at Brickworks so far. hope to continue to see this upward trend continue.

Brickworks Assimilation Oatmeal Stout
Tap: Nearly opaque with ruby highlights, fading creamy beige head. The aroma has notes of oats, chocolate, walnut, roasted barley, bready pale malts, with a hint of charred black malt, coffee and even some berry esters. The taste is that of your basic sweet Oatmeal Stout, bready and roasty with a touch of ashy black malt along with some dark fruit and coffee tones. A quick dash of hop bitterness does come out to play on occasion. For an Oatmeal Stout I honestly expected a heavier mouth feel, a bit thin for the style but easy to drink. This is okay, but since it was based off a "replicale" recipe, there is not much they could change about the beer. (Methinks that this current tap version does not have the coffee addition that was brought to the Winterfest)

Brickworks Cornerstone APA
Tap: Methinks the recipe has been tweaked on this beer, the hops are far more noticeable this time around and the overall beer is cleaner and more refreshing. I did not rate it the other visit since I thought my palate was shot by that crappy Amber Ale (which they are tweaking as well thank goodness). Anyway about the review.

Clean medium golden hue with a moderate frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of grassy and piney hops, pale biscuity malts, some mineral water and a touch of hop spice (pepper and clove). The taste is hardly earth shattering but solid and on point for the genre. Mild malt balanced by moderate hop bitterness and spiciness. A bit of acidic fruitiness and dry clean yeast profile. The mouth feel is very refreshing and crisp, a touch of biscuity dryness toward the end. A solid offering and worth trying again.

Brickworks Harvest Peach Wheat
Tap: Clean golden hue with a average frothy head. The aroma is all about the peaches, pretty much can not detect anything else other than a faint brief moment of pale malt and wheat husks. For being a "Bavarian Wheat" I am not getting any clove, banana or bubblegum esters normally associated with that style. The taste is spot on to the nose, pure peach flavors with a little room for some pale malt. The mouth feel is lively and refreshing. It is what it is, a fruit imbued American Wheat. For people who like wine coolers...

Brickworks Solstice Crystal Stout
Tap "Solstice Juniper Crystal Stout’: Okay, I had to ask what is a "crystal" stout? Well I found out that the brewer forgot to add the black malt and since they did not want to thrown out 7 barrels of beer, they filtered it and gave it the name. Honestly it is not really a stout, more like a Brown Ale but since the Juniper is so noticeable, I figured it really should be listed as a spiced beer.

Now that is outta the way, onward to the review... Brown hued with reddish highlights topped by a small fading head. The nose detected lots of Juniper and gin vapours for sure along with a nutty, toffee, roasty, fig, prune and minor earthy yeast notes. The taste is twangy fruit and Juniper that adds a gin character. Some roasted barley and butty brown malts and a minerally tone. The mouth feel is lively and crisp, refreshing but tad too thin-bodied. This is weird no doubt and unlike any beer I ever had. I wanted to like this more than I did since I like Juniper berries but the lack of mouth feel and depth of palate kept the score down. +1 overall for the brewer being honest about the mistake.

Tap and once again poured too high so left no room for any head, still served far too cold as well. Cola brown hue with some lace. The aroma has notes of roasted barley, some debittered black malts, slight nutty and coffee vapours and raisins, a note of acidic cleaner as well. The taste is fleeting and thin. There are some mild sweet chocolate malts, nuts, coffee and fruit components but really seems to be less than you can do with a homebrew kit. The mouth feel is far too thin bodied. Arrgh, pass on this one.

Brickworks 327 Amber Ale
Tap from my 1st visit: Amber hued with an okay head and spotty lace. The aroma has a major overtone of bubblegum (bad) along with toffee, bready and rye malt, herbal hops and some phenolic vapours. The taste is sweet malts with a hint of fig, slightly medicinal and grainy, light hop bitterness. The mouth feel is soft and under carbonated. Blah, missing on all cylinders and muddled, far too strong in alcohol for an Amber Ale if you ask me.

Pint at brewery: Rant... Served to the top so there was no room for any head plus served way too cold. Caramel hues with no lace. The aroma has some classic aromas and esters of the genre with clove, banana, wheat, roasted barley and walnuts but also some butterscotch notes. The flavor is pretty much to the style with fruity and light spice notes backed up by a moderate sweet malt bill. The mouth feel is smooth and soft and a tad watery. Not too shabby and hit the spot, the best of the beers I have so far from the upstart brewery. I liked it enough to buy a growler.

On tap at Brickworks served in a shaker. Dark cola brown pour with a thin tan film for a head. Decent lace. Again, served beyond cold, like a light lager. The aroma had some modest roast, caramel, and light chocolate. The flavor was bitter roast and cold coffee. Flimsy, watery mouthfeel. A small improvement over the first batch, but this one still has a ways to go.

On tap at Brickworks served in a shaker. Hazy amber pour with a thin tan film that produced some decent lacing. Served very cold. Faint aroma of toast and caramel. The flavor had toasted caramel, bread, fruity yeast notes, and some grassy/herbal hos. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and slightly sticky. Lightly carbonated. Not bad, some potential. Please raise the serving temp up at least 10 degrees.

Brickworks 327 Amber Ale
First beer I’ve tried from Brickworks, and it was pretty solid for their first run. The amber ale was a deep copper hue, had a nice caramel and malty aroma... some slight hop notes, but mostly malt. Flavor was super smooth, tons of malt, caramel, sweetness... just a hint of bitterness to keep it in balance. Nice full mouthfeel...
