Jean Tout Seul La Trompeuse

19 May 2018. At De Heeren van Liedekercke. Shared with Anke.
Pours hazy orange with a big, lasting, frothy, off-white head; good lacing. The aroma contains grass, (baker's) yeast, hay, unripe peach & orange, spices, some (dank) cheese, banana, iron (but not disturbing). It tastes light fruity sweet, orange & tangerine in the back, and light to medium spicy bitter, a bit hoppy & yeasty. Dry, spicy, yeasty finish, lingering unripe fruits. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Surprisingly good for the almost 'dead' style of Belgian Ale.

The first beer from a micro brewery founded in 2009; its name refers to the fact that they intended to make a beer of 9% ABV but it turned out to be only 6,9% ABV. Off-white, stable head, deep misty amber colour. Refreshing, bit smoky aroma of walnuts, toasted bread, nutmeg, caramel, yeast, peach, tomato. Fresh fruity taste on a soft caramel malt base, peppery, bitterish hops in the finish. Correct but nothing to get too excited about.

Bouteille 33cl @Place To Bier 2014 (14/06/2014).

A nice amber/light brown color with white head that goes down a little too quickly. Fresh flowers in the nose, some bubble gum and earthiness as well. Medium body and good carbonation. Good bit of maltiness up front followed by a long, pleasant bitterness. Overall a nice beer--Very enjoyable!

Holy cow! This thing is quite the gusher. The beer kind of gusher. I got about 1/2 inch of beer and 7 inches of foam. And it was still coming out of the bottle like champagne. Smelling it almost made me choke from the high concentration of carbon dioxide. Underneath that is a sweet malt aroma mixed with something kind of like old damp cardboard. Big carbonic taste and mouthfeel. I won’t finish this one as it is too disappointing. I had higher hopes for a beer with a sweet looking elephant on it.

Orange coloured with a couple of floaters cause the beer started to flow from the moment I opened the bottle. The head is ok, but should hold a bit longer. The smell is sweet fruits, caramel, yeast and lightly hopped. Decent. Full taste, the biterness gets trough pretty hard, some less pleasant earthy-dryness inside. The fruit is at the background.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is toffee, grain and alcohol. Not too complex but nothing bad. The flavor is more complex and more enjoyable. I get a lot of toffee and brown sugar notes, as well as some wheat and grain. The alcohol is once again present in the taste. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle Octo got me for Xmas, probably from Dranken Geers. Disappointing pour- not the expected explosion of froth, but a controllable, murky copper entirely contained by the glass, albeit with a black-flecked (?) whip of suds....Belgian stuff, I guess. Soupy and heavily dosed with yeast and spice. Bright citrus aroma; just-grated lemon and grapefruit, cinnamon-flavoured bubblegum, more than a dollop of Fairy Liquid, and a suggestion of the farmyard. Crisp, well-bittered spiciness on the palate with some juicy, coriander-dusted marmalade, varnished pine, pistachio skin bitterness and a bite, effervescence and hint of horse like a fizzy young Orval, minus the biscuit. Quite a brew.

(bottle, 33cl, gushing) Cloudy, orange-golden colour with a giant and rocky, slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty, lemon- and orange-fruity aroma with zesty and moderately spicy notes, backed by a mildly sweet (cara-)malty background. Moderately sweet and bitter flavour, medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Yeasty, cara-malty taste with an aromatic hops character with fruity and slightly resiny notes; dry-out-effect towards the mildly sweet, yeasty- and hop bitter finish with peppery spicy notes. Hoppy and likeable Belgian Ale. 29.XI.10

Gushing to massive doses of clinging superfluous foam and precious little cloudy orange beer. Dry malty and spicy nose, herbal, fennel and maybe a bit peppery. Sharpish, but still balanced if with yeast emphasis. Scorched caramel, sugary, main taste less neutral than expected from the nose. Again spicy, herbal notes and hints of wheat. Quite burning MF, sharp. Medium bodied, pretty slick. It’s certainly not bad, but once more, the only alternative to blandness or sweetness seems to be spicing - whether yeast-determined or factual. And if the residual sugars are to be further fermented, these bottles are potential WMD’s...

28/07/2010, bottle 33cl. Loud explosion upon opening.
Clouded amber coloured beer with a big white irregular formed head. The head dissappears almost completely after a minute. Palate has a little too much carbonisation, the loud bang confirms this. ;-) Taste has a little alcohol sweetness to it, malty, caramel and then goes fruity with some citrus and hops. Aftertast is long and bitter with clear hints of caramel and roasted malts. A nice brew, not too extreme in taste, yet enough complex to stay interesting till the last sip.

Bottle picked up at Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgium, consumed at home 04-07-10 This literally exploded out of the bottle the crown cap came off almost bullet like and about three quarters of the contents of the bottle ended up on the worktop. What was left of this beer was a very hazy golden/orange colour with a huge billowing white head. Sweet, fruity and yeasty, but sweetness seemed a tad too much, I didn’t get too much spice but then I didn’t get too much beer of the truth be known. A6 A2 T5 P3 Ov11 2.7
