Bottle, 75 cl, courtesy of fonefan. A dark golden, crystal clear mead, still. Cellar, honey and roses on the nose, not bad but not my favorite. Honey, roses, some cellar and a herbal touch in the flavor, alcohol warming. Sweet, medium body. Not bad in any way, not very good either. 110129

2/10 From a sample fiulijn gave to Marko and he shared it, thanks both of them! It had dark reddish brown body with medium sized legs. Nice but weak honey aroma, similarly weak flavor. Definitely not too sweet, rather nice dryer honey and caramelly. Medium bodied with longer, very slightly warming finish. I would put their two meads I tried in the same quality category, medium, although I reckon I liked the sweeter version more.

1/10 A sample fiulijn gave to Marko and he shared it, thanks both of them! This mead had full golden body and showed very small legs. Honey aroma, quite nice, what I used to get on mead. Flowery honey flavor, not too sweet, balanced with some strange herbal bitterness that give an interesting character to it. Full oily body, long warming sweet finish. Nice enough.

Another one from fiulijn who decanted it for me (huge thanks!). Poured a coppery-bronze amber body, dark for a mead. Honey, yeast and maybe light alcohol in the nose. Dry, acidic(!) mead with some scant flowery honeyish notes. Caramel too. Eh, interesting but overfermented in my opinion. Drinkable though.

Another one from fiulijn who decanted it for me (huge thanks!). Shared with heavy and TimE. Poured a nice golden body, good legs. Lovely honeyish flowery nose, light oil. Sweet flowery honeyish taste ending slightly dry, very lightly acidic, maybe bitter and overall fresh (for a lack of a better descriptor). Quality stuff that we all liked.

Beautiful golden color. The aroma is deep, with honey and flowers (mountain flowers?). It’s sweet, but not syrupy, the body is quite lean for a Mead indeed; very good honey flavor, chestnut honey, with a warming alcohol note. The owner confirms that it’s a toutfleurs honey, not a specific flower. Not very complex, but elegant and extremely satisfying.

Hydromel produced in Bretagne (probably by Lozachmeur) using honey from Lafontaine.

Beautiful amber color. The aroma is mature, but there are also traces of wood, plastic and alcohol; very light Sherry too. The body is thinner than most French Meads; it’s quite dry, even if the mouthfeel is soft; the flavor is not impressive, instead there is an evident and pervasive oxidisation. The final is quite short, with some liquorice. Not very good.
