Goose Island 1814 3.5
Clear, deep brown pour with hints of light creeping in on the edges. Huge two finger head. This was poured from a cask, so consistent with that type of pour. Aroma of bread, cereal and grain. Lots of grain, toast and cereal notes on the tongue. A little caramel too. Medium bodied. Dry finish. No lace present.

Goose Island Big Train 3.8
Bottle: Pour is murky brown, with a modest khaki head into this glass - retention is average, with light spotting presence here. The nose is alcohol, chocolate malts, with some dark fruits lending a hand with some roast presence. The flavor profile is nicer - but not a mind blower. It starts off with a chocolate caramel malt presence and it quickly heads towards alcohol notes - barrel presence provides the vanilla, and the finish line reveals graham cracker crust and bourbon.

Very malty taste. Smell of lemon peels and prairie grass. Sits really well on the palate. Compliments a pub burger perfectly. Wish they would bottle this beer. No hints of oysters in this beer

Goose Island (Brewpubs) Major Tom 3.7
On tap at the Goose Island Brewpub station as a bonus beer for the 18th Annual Chicagoland Brewpub Shootout. Dispensed to my fest glass showing a clear, brownish amber color, with a presentable layer of light tan head foam, and spots & strands of lacing. The nose was toasted, caramel, dried fruit, and alcohol at the ready. Medium+ bodied, the taste took the aroma notes, included earthy bitterness, and added some booze that was pleasantly malt smoothed. A nicely approachable, English Strong.

Goose Island Yellow Umbrella 3.7
On tap at the Goose Island Brewpub station for the 18th Annual Chicagoland Brewpub Shootout. Dispensed to my fest glass showing a hazed, straw color, with a modest layer of white head foam that reduced quickly to a ring & film, and left streaks of lacing on the glass. The nose started out sour, not just tart, with some yeasty brett, light wheat, and perfumey citrus as lemon & white grapefruit. The flavor was as the aroma, with a light to medium body, and lively carbonation that successfully conveyed the flavor. An excellent example of an American Sour. The dry-hopping teaked it just enough.

On tap at fobab, and again out of the bottle. I get walnuts. Lots of walnut flavor. Like if there was a bourbon county or cycle walnut variant. Otherwise, some oak, vanilla and smoke mixed in there. Chewy and sticky.

Goose Island Baltic Porter 3.2
At the brewpub, December 13, 2015. no barrel treatment. Dark brown, thin, lacing head. Very heavily roasted. some coffee character. Sweet malt and some dried fruit, dates and some raisin maybe. A little sweet, some toffee towards the end. The roasted character is too strong for the style and that brings it down a little.

Goose Island Big Train 3.9
My Bottom Line:
Roasted coffee and dark chocolate contribute comfort and bitterness, as alcohol heat cleans up the molasses in the finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam covers the brown-edged black.
-This may lack depth to truly shine within the category, but it plays the dessert card really well.
-Carbonation is high enough to make the brew avoid the pitfalls of sugary obesity.
-Light smoke is imagined at times.

Bottle.
