Mile Marker Brewing Reviews

Jabah
3.3
Mile Marker 1565 Ancient City Red Ale
I wanted to rate this a little higher because of local brew, price, etc...but just a little above average here for the style. Good caramel malt content, with some roasty/light oak flavor. Hop balance is a little weak though, so can't really call it a hoppy red. Medium red/mahogany appearance. Not much aroma. Decent feel. I'm all about supporting local brew, but prefer some of the hoppier West Coast reds.

Mile Marker 70 Palm Beach Coconut Porter
I was slightly let down this. First brew that I tried from them, so was hoping for a little more. One of those thinner, easy drinking porters. Could use a little more chocolate, and the coconut was barely noticeable. Balanced well and has a nice feel. A good beer, just wouldn't really go out of my way to seek out.

Growler... Pours clear and black with mahogany highlights and a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. The subtle nose is faintly nutty, herbal and rooty. I’m picking up no coconut here. Medium to full-bodied with adequate carbonation. The flavor and finish are bland and nearly non-existent. No coconut and not much else either. Clean, but mostly flavorless. Perfect balance is all this has going for it - and sometimes that’s good enough, but not in this case. Growler courtesy of, well, growler!

Mile Marker 1565 Ancient City Red Ale
Intense red-brown, clear; thin, bubbly head. Toast and triacle aroma. Molasses and medium roast up front, a little fishy, cherry notes. Woody bittering. The fishiness eventually turns into a flaw. Mouthfeel is slippery at first before, breaking a little fizzy. Medium body, not as acidic as lots of other reds. Somewhere between brown and a pale and an an amber. Proof Production Facility, tap.

Mile Marker 70 Palm Beach Coconut Porter
Draft at the tasting room. Small pour. Dark brown with a one finger head. Aroma was fairly muted with no coconut on the nose. Got some roasted malts is about it. Taste also was lacking the coconut but the dry roasted malts were fine. A little too thin and watery. But the flavor was OK. Roasted malt finish with medium carbonation.

Draft at the tasting room. Pint glass. Copper pour with a medium white head. Some lacing. Nose was rather muted with hints of bread, cereal, citrus and pine. Taste had not a lot of actual hop character. Some bitterness with very light citrus. Would have loved a more bold flavor. Medium carb and bitter finish.

Tallahassee, Fl - Proof Brewery taproom - on tap. Sparkling medium copper pour, bubbly snow-white head. Aroma has a fresh spruce backbone, a hint of spearmint. Flavor has a solid citrus bittersweet bent to it, some light caramel notes, a touch of biscuit-like maltiness. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Pretty solid.

Mile Marker 82 Islamorada IPA
Hazy copper color. Thin white head fades quickly, some lacing. Aroma is all bready malt, no hops to speak of. Hop bitterness and some slight malt dominates the flavor. No hop flavor and no real sweetness leaves the beer unbalanced. Overall a disappointing IPA. (Could be old; on tap at Aunt Kate?s in st Augustine)

Tallahassee, Fl. ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - growler. Pours a sparkling light golden with a soft snow white head that leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma has some light lemon accents, a hint of allspice. Mile Marker 1565 Ancient City Red Ale
Draft at brewery. Pours a very clear red with small white head. Not much lacing. Nose is a toffee and crusty bread character. Taste is similar with a touch if hop flavor. Not much bitterness. Dang if this isn’t the IPA with less hops and just a touch more malt. Decent red ale.

Mile Marker 82 Islamorada IPA
Draft. Pours a fairly clear light reddish color with a medium white head, good lacing. Nose is that bready, crusty, dusty Munich note to it with mild citrus hop character. Taste is initially a touch sweet with a wonderful malt taste for an American red kind if beer. Hop flavor and bitterness are pretty low for IPA style but I’d call this a great extra red ale. Nothing wrong with it, I just want less malt and more hops from IPAs.

Mile Marker 1513 Pecan de Leon Nut Brown Ale
Mile Marker 1513 Pecan de Leon Nut Brown Ale might have the longest name in beer and it is pretty good as well. Light pecan aroma coming from a tan head and dark pour. Taste is nutty with a harsh bitter finish that fortunately does not last. Pecan de Leon is a good brown ale but not as unique as the description and name would have you believe.

Draft at Rum Barrel in Key West. Yellow-gold with a lasting white head. This isn’t anything too complex but very clean and refreshing in this Florida heat. There’s a yeast, crackery flavor, with some citrus zip and hops in the finish.. Really an excellent choice if you’re looking for a summer thirst quencher

Mile Marker 318 Datil Pepper Amber Ale
Draft... RBWG 2013... Hazy dirty-orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. The malty, earthy bouquet offers caramel and chili peppers. Medium-bodied with modest carbonation. The flavor provides near-perfect balance, but there’s not much going on other than a generous measure of earthy, chili pepper heat. The chili pepper heat carries over to a lengthy, pleasantly warm finish. It really sticks to the tongue.
