Sample courtesy of Grumbo, cheers Graham! Clear golden colour, thin bubbly white rim and aroma of mash, crystal malt. Taste is sweet, malt, grain, corn, with straw, sawdust, tangy, cardboard notes. Medium bodied, light carbonation, lingering sweet mashy finish. Not the best.

Dull dark amber colour, looks oxidized AF. Smell of sweet caramel, perfume, disgusting. Sweetish, weak, ozidized, bread, some caramel, husks, it's the usual Middle East NA garbage, but a bit more fuity.

320mL bottle, thanks Pictoman for the shit tick, pours a clear dark amber with a small beige head. Nose is revolting, with loads of cardboard and some skunk cabbage. Flavour is like old, low-grade honey, lots of cardboard, and boiled vegetables. That’s pretty rank. Lots of cardboard, crappy honey and boiled vegetables. Putrid.

Cobriza con espuma blanquecina de poca durabilidad. Aroma a cereal crudo y leve tostado. Sabor igualmente a cereal crudo, cartón mojado. Difícil de beber. Un par de tragos han bastado.

Shams Stout
A gift from a friend. Pours dark brown, almost black, topped with a thin and nonlasting white head. Smelly nose, some grains and extra dusty. Taste gentley sweet, cardboard and corn syrup style. Lighter body. A bit sparkly texture. Not unpleasant, apart from the smell, but not much beer like. I guess if there's nothing else around, it'll do.

Shams Beer
1977 bottle discovered in cellar, Elayieh, North Tehran. As Iran is one of the pioneers of both wine (5500 BC) and beer-making (3500 BC), decided it would be nice to drink a bit of history. Appearance: Pours well despite forty years of ageing, dark tan colour, no carbonation noted. Head size minimal with no longetivity. Colour more appealing than age would suggest. Aroma: Floral aroma conjures images of a colourful 1970s Iran with flares and short skirts giving no inkling of what was to come. Hints of juniper and other herbs also contribute. Palate: With age, certain aspects may have disappeared, however there remains a malty complexity which gives a satisfying feeling around the front of the mouth. No real vinegariness to it. Taste: Not disastrous. Hints of molasses with a caramelly flavour which gives more satisfaction on subsequent sips. Overall: A nice liquidy memory of a nation’s increasingly-forgotten history. Would have probably earned some decent coin had it been sold on an online marketplace, but that would have required smuggling it outside of the country. Has kept unbelievably well given the amount of time that has passed.

Bottle share at RBBWG 2017, thanks for sharing. Dorée, col blanc fin. Grains et encore grains, ne devrait me^me pas être sur RB étant donné que c’est aussi plus une sorte de malta que de bière. Rappel plus une légère eau de brassin, sans plus. Rien en terme houblonnage.

Shared by 77ships at RBBWG ’17. Moussy but quickly dissolving, egg-white head, golden blonde robe, cristal clear. Aroma of fried Brussels sprouts, old bread crust, plastic, grass, minerals, dry muesli. Neutral flavor, graininess throughout, bit minerally, very cereally and thin with medium carbo, unpleasant rubbery and plastic-like effect in the finish. Nothing worthwile by any means, even within the non-alcoholic category, this has clearly not been made with any ambition whatsoever but I guess people in Iran may be able to enjoy this. I did not, apart from ticking an unlikely country to drink any beer from...

Courtesy of a friend who got in in Iran. 1000 ml. green plastic bottle than shamelessly rips off the Heineken design, its hilarious. Sampled @ RBBWG VI (2017). Extremely pale golden, little white head. Smells like a freshly fertilized field in the worst way, industrial, chemical, plastic, something dead & rotting. Taste is like watered down fertilizer or something, chemicals, cancer, its mind-blowingly awful,... I do not want to drink it further or descibe it. Body is chemical malt soda, industrial,... Truly the worst. Alcohol is apparently easy to obtain in Tehran. Maybe in smaller villages with a more strict religious police this has some appeal?

0.33 l bottle that was on the tasting menu thanks to Marko! It poured really nice amber body with small head. Aroma clearly showed that only the appearance would be pleasant, some potato-grain-corn smell. Flavor was grainy, does not seem fermented, sweetish and utterly boring in its quite water body. At the end, I believe that this is the worst of three Iranian "things" I’ve had.

Huge thanks to Krešo who brought it from Iran! We finally tried this, bit sad Matt wasn’t here, but still... it couldn’t last much longer. Deep golden body. Clean malty nose, "raw mash", dry notes, Gurthnar said potato - and yeah, it definitely is. Creamy potato taste, crap. Sweet crap. Poor Iranians.

Bottle at the Wasana’s Winter Beer Tasting 2012! Thank you Bierkrug!
Pours into the glass a strong golden yellow beer, which has nearly no foam. It smells very fruity and grainy, pleasantly sweet. Starts strange, with sweet malts, fruity and slightly watery. Slightly chemical. In the middle you get used to it, and the fruity component is very pleasant. Goes to a slightly musty-malty and chemically-sweet finish! Well done for a NA!
