Temptation Hell Hound IPA
Cask at Lady Grey’s, Newcastle. It pours deep amber with a small off-white head. The nose is dough, wood, resin, straw and a hint of barnyard. The taste is wood, earth, good bitterness, resinous, grapefruit, mild astringency, light alcohol, some saltiness and leaf with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Nice level of bitterness, but not a whole lot of depth. Decent.

Temptation Vanilla Bourbon Porter
Cask, Ncl BF, 2012. Just found this amongst some old notes. First impression is of alcoholic ice cream. Just enough vanilla to give a fine creamy aroma, soft smooth palate, the bourbon comes in very late. Jet black, with a pale cream coloured head, has a bitter finish, with little to no roast. Alcoholic warmth in the chest, very intriguing.

Temptation Watermelon Pale Ale
The beer hunting in Newcastle was really surprisingly excellent, and this was one of those places--not that it was a great beer, but it was exciting for me to find that the brewer hadn’t been added to Ratebeer yet. It’s been years since I’ve added a new brewer. This beer is golden in color and it shows itself going flat. The notes are canteloupe rind and grass, and it ends with a classic UK vegetal aftertaste. The mouthfeel was also flat. I’ve never been keen on watermelon beers (21st Amendment having the most famous example perhaps?) and this followed that. But the line-up of this new brewer looks exciting (if only they would ship kegs to Minnesota) and I wish them the best. (tap at Bacchus, Newcastle, June 2012).
