13/4/2019. From Bag in a Box, at Hull Real Ale & Cider Festival, 2019. Pours slightly hazy pale orange gold with minimal head. Aroma of a mix of semi tart and sweet apples, wood, caramel and citrus. Moderate sweetness and tartness. Medium to full body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Very nice mix of sweet and tart to finish, with a slight dryness. Liked this.

Draught at The Cambridge Blue, Cambridge. Gold to amber with no head. This proved to be quite a sweet, fruity cider, dessert apple, a touch of tangy lemon perhaps. It’s okay.

Not sure if the batch I tasted was off but it would make an excellent vinegar.

Golden in colour with no head - still. Farmy aroma and quite a big sour kick at the end which leaves a tart taste in the mouth. Dry overall - a bit of a sipper.

On tap at a cider festival in Bath
The second cider that I went for was not quite as good as the first. However it was much drier and provided good contrast. Now that I can begin to see the subtleties in some of the different ciders I begin to appreciate how well made the best are.

Aroma / Appearance - The rosy gold base is a tint darker than the previous one. A coppery edge and flat body look like melted pennies. The smell of a dry riesling gives this vinous aspects of a dessert wine. Thick and heady it does not try to hide the ABV at all.

Flavor / Palate - The vinous aspects do not stop in the nose. From the first sip this is a dense mixture of sweet apples, white wine, and a tartness that borders on acidic. Even by the end I was not sure what to make of this enigmatic draft.

Well what can I say, "Badgers Spit" is only made by Chant Cider and Naish’s Cider is called just Naish’s Cider, the national collection is wrong in there labelling! However Frank Naish and Paul Chant both help each other to make each others cider up every year from only 100% cider apples from there own orchards, some of the variety’s are very ancient and some are there own sort grown from pit in the last 100 years or so. There cider don’t go below 7.5% but it usually is much higher somewhere between 8 and 9%, two years ago the first two barrels where exceeding 10.5%!! Opus? lol.. I must confess I would and have been extremely bias in my Rating, as I actually make "Badgers Spit" lol.. Being an Artisan Natural Cider every barrel is slightly different and the cider being a living product is changing throughout the year, its never the same ... Enjoy (=*_^=)

Cask at Cider Tap. Pours a near clear amber with a slight haze with a near white head that dissipates immediately and completely. Aroma has a slight tart apple with some backing earthiness. Flavor has notes of tart apples that mellow to a slight dry finish.

Handpull at Southampton Arms. Cloudy light gold with a minimal head. Sour apple and white wine aroma. Taste is funky, dry, acidic overripe apple and even a hint of campfire. Slick, very acidic, mild carb, dry stinging and coating finish; not for sweet cider fans.

Free sample from a plastic barrel on the bar at the Wheatsheaf ,Felling. I’m all for challenging flavours, and pushing the envelope, but this was downright nasty. Ridiculously harsh and acidic, to the point where the first sip made me cough, and it went downhill from there. It may be an acquired taste, but not one I want to acquire!

[3193-20100731] Cask. Light woody apples aroma. Slightly hazy, yellow brown body with no head. Stinky cheese flavour with a lingering dry finish. Medium body. Disappointingly not tasty -- I felt like that badger was mocking me for trying it.
