Light copper, small head. Sweet Belgian yeast, cake, wheat, hopless, some alcohol too. Very sweet aroma taste is a bit more balanced due to big carbonation and simple starting bitterness. It’s decent enough, nothing you never tried before. But a very nice mouth feel. (33cl bottle from Dekoninck)

(bottle, 33cl) Dark brown colour with a ruby shine and a brownish mid-sized foamy head. Mildly sugary, dark and roasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, dark chocolate, traces of coffee and anise spice. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a modest carbonation. Roasty malt character with notes of coffee, caramel, chocolate and delicate hints of dried fruits; sweet and mildly roasty bitter finish with caramel, chocolate and stronger fruity notes. Likeable. 07.I.16

Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is hazy golden colored and has a large stable white head, with livingly Co2. The aroma is malty and fruity, with hints of hops, fruits (citrus like) and spices (coriander). The taste is sweet and soft, with some sweet maltiness and a light fruitiness but also a light spicy bitterness to the end. The finish is fruity and light bitter.

Nivoo Bruin
Bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk). One of the two Nivoo beers from this relatively new contract brewer. Typical Belgian ’massieve ale’ with hazy bronze colour with bright ruby hue under a thin but stable, light beige head consisting of minute bubbles, breaking open after a short while; slight gushing. Aroma is a bit crude, but not unpleasant: lots of brown sugar and candi syrup, caramel, a ton of coriander seed, tea leaves, fondant chocolate, cookie dough, banana ester, toasted bread, roasted hazelnuts, orange peel, plum brandy, old raisins, candied figs, hint of brandy, burnt wood, touch of band aid and quite some iron. Sweet onset, candi syrup, raisins, banana, sourish redcurrant touch, relatively strong carbo, bit minerally, ’Belgian’ yeast spiciness over a full, somewhat resinous, smooth, caramelly, clearly nutty and eventually lightly toasted maltiness (as in: dark malts effectively applied here), finish of persisting caramel malts with a chocolatey touch, banana yeastiness, strong resinous coriander (almost overpowering), slightly peppery and leafy hop bitterness providing some balance against the sweetness and of course the expected, rum-like alcohol warmth. Decent sipper, should have been a lot more complex, rich and refined if it wants to rival the classics in this style and in that sense still has a long way to go, but for such a young beer company, this is very enjoyable - has some ’niveau’ indeed. Recommended for those who are into the Belgian abt or dubbel style, but not (yet) distinguishing itself as much as it could have. Unlike many other ’new’ Belgian beers in the traditional Belgian ale styles, it does not show any true flaws, though I’d strongly recommend these guys to take it easy on the coriander - there’s more than enough of it in Belgian beers as it is.

30/VII/14 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ the seaside - BB: 6/II/15 (2014-854)

Little cloudy deep orange beer, fizzy aery off-white head, unstable, dissipates quickly, bit adhesive. Aroma: very sweet, malty, bit oxidized, no, it’s very oxidized, some orange peel, spicy. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: very oxidized, this is just crazy, the beer is more than half a year away from it’s best by date and it tastes like it’s 3 years past that date! Orange peel, bit sweet. Aftertaste: sweet and sugary, sherry and madeira notes, orange peel, very very oxidized, bit spicy, soft bitterness.

Bottle Pours rather clear blonde small white head fades fast . Filthy sweet scent . Not sugary or malty , but more chemical ... Weird . Lucktly that its not too intense . High carbo , rather thin mouthfeel . Taste is weak , but not bad . Grainy , sweetness from the malts ( no more of that chemical things ) . Not that bitter . Sweet maltyness with a hint of grains . Not too bad , unexpectedly . Especially like the aftertaste , which is intenser sweetness from the malts . Een tripel voor singles met nivoo !

Pours dark dark brown ( almost black ) under a good , bit darker foam . Smell is sweet, earthy malts . Rather high carbo Taste has some metal ( in a good way ! ) sweet, earthy leaves a bit . some bitter touch , sweet. Aftertaste is more intence , all of the above It’s very nice ! I’d think this would be a 3 ,8, at least, if it had a little less carbonation . Carbonation now overpowers the first tastes , wich i don’t like but is mostly the case with Belgian beers .

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a big and off-white frothy head. Yeasty, slightly vinous, if not vinegary fruity aroma with shades of bread and cara-malt. Moderately sweet and slightly sour flavour, medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Delicately bready (cara-)malty taste with hints of citrus and shades of herbal hops; slightly sweet and sour-fruity finish. Rather disappointing. 19.XI.13

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 06/02/2015. Hazy darker orange, touch amber, fading white head. Strangely sweetish smell, touch plastic, chemicals, candy sugar, hint rotting strawberries, plastic caramel malts. Bitter plastic, cheap honey, liquorish, bitter spices, touch Indian spices taste, very sweet, more cheap honey, touch fermenting strawberry, oily, nuts, some vegetables. Body is bit pricklish. Almost like a very bad mead overall. It is not bad but a bit far from my preferred flavour profile. I liked the Bruin but this one is not my thing even if objectively not too bad.
