EIGHT Elite Light Lager
12 oz. can from Texas Cheer Liquor. Pours a crystal clear light gold color with a white head and good retention. Decent lacing. Very light pale malt aroma. The flavor is a very straightforward pale lager. Clean and crisp and smooth. Grainy mouthfeel. Medium-light body. No bitterness. High carbonation. Decent flavor for a beer this light. Nothing memorable, but better than I expected.

Super hazy golden and light straw coloured body with a nice two centimetre tall pure white head that fades pretty quickly, but leaves a light lace on the sides of the glass. Aroma of strong yeast, wheat, curacao and a dash of bubble gum and only a touch of pineapple here, but a lot of sweetness noticeable, in the nose, at least. Medium-bodied; Strong pineapple, wheat and especially sweet notes with a lot of richness from the grain somehow here, but the honey and caster sugar flavours get a lot of sweetness and bring it forward with the fruits with a lot of curacao notes towards the end and some notes from the yeast strain here. Aftertaste shows a pretty rich pineapple and wheat note fro the style with a lot of malts, but a good deal of balance from the fruits and the sugars all ending with a good softer, clean bite from the wheat. Overall, a nice, fairly sweet (for the style, especially) beer that has some relatively fresh pineapple notes, but the wheat richness and especially yeastie finish brings out a nice level of flavours to this that are probably nice in Wisconsin Summers, but perhaps a bit too rich for the hot summers down South here that would be a bit too cloying for the season; however, in January when the weather is still 70degF somehow, this works! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Hy-Vee [grocery] in Madison, Wisconsin on 08-August-2021 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 03-January-2023 when the [winter] Weather was way too hot for the day!

12 ounce can A fairly traditional Oktoberfest beer checks all the right boxes. With few frills beyond the basic marzen profile it is in line with many other Wisconsin Brewing releases. If you happen to be passing through it might be worth a single but otherwise the only advantage it has is a low price point. It may be a while before I revisit Wisconsin Brewing unless it happens to be another freebie. AROMA / APPEARANCE The soft blend of caramel and malt cools the nose. A supple caramel colored base bobs with ease. If you've seen a few marzens or Oktoberfests you've probably seen one like it. FLAVOR / PALATE Caramel chews, malt, and a cool bitterness rests briefly on the tongue. It then melts away leaving a thin remnant of sweet iced tea. The finish doesn't last long or leave much of an impression. Ultimately that means this Oktoberfest can be easily switched out for dozens of others without really noticing a difference. Even so it was a nice benchmark and remainder of what a good local draft can be.

16 ounce can Though this has been available for at least the last couple of years it took me a while to be interested in picking up a single. After having one I'm not sure I would purchase it again even with the annual variance as there are just so many other options out there. I'm glad for companies like Wisconsin Brewing but I feel like with so much local competition they could do just a bit better to stand out. AROMA / APPEARANCE A rich robust pour fills the glass with scents of coffee, vanilla, and barrel aging. The treatment is obvious though not overpowering - a bit like sipping on a whiskey at Barrique's with a background of espresso roast. FLAVOR / PALATE The body does not force itself on the palate as much as expected. For 10% it briefly manages to present a light presence of espresso, vanilla, and coconut. However soon the full effect hits the throat as a rich warmth radiates outwards. Overall it feels respectable but much like Barrique's itself with so much new competition in the last decade it isn't enough to make this one a repeat purchase.

16 oz. can from Gretchen - thanks again! 2019 vintage. Pours a deep, dark, clear brown with a moderate beige head that settles into a ring. Brown/burnt orange liquid with a dark beige head. Toasted grainy bread and oatmeal raisin cookie scents. Mild sweetness in the front. Some sour mash similarities. Sweeter as it warms. 12oz bottle ($15) from release 4 weeks ago at WI Brewing. Shrug? Little chance it will be worth it, although big fan of Envy, and the potential of BA Envy would (and did) pay for. Almost black pour with little head. Aroma has barrel and chocolate, with sweet and roasted malts. Nice barrel - which allows for some allotted imbalance. Taste is of fairly big sweet barrel, with roast & sweet malts, and some chocolate. Down through the glass, the barrel takes the lead and runs away. Not thick or deep, this likely will not age well to help the blend. It is a nice barrel, but is too unbalanced toward it. Finishes sweetly, with barrel. Ultimately the other good components in the base are diminished by the barrel, to the overall detriment. 14.2

Aroma: Initially notes of sweet corn, settles into a nice malt sweetness, with prevailing aromas of grains and lightly toasted bread and a touch of caramel. The Hops are very low and just provided a bit of crispness with no predominant flavor. Appearance: Crystal clear body consisting of a golden color with orange and red hues. The head quickly sins but remains president and is an off-white color. The texture is mostly Tiny Bubbles with a small scattered throughout. The head is retained albeit thin. Flavor: Strong malt body with a predominant flavor of toasted almost burnt bread. The hops provide a low grapefruit flavors resting on the back of the tongue, and they also provide a good balance of bitterness cleaning the malts. The balance is malty with the aftertaste almost becoming seltzer water with a fairly predominate carbonic bite. Mouthfeel: High carbonation, medium to thin body, no alcohol warmth and is not creamy. Moderate astringency birth from the bittering hops and mainly from the grains. Overall: Not a bad Oktoberfest, a lot of malt character, but the high carbonation and the residual roasted malt character kind of distract from the overall impression of the beer.
