Finians Premium Lager
Bottle. Medium golden color, a very tall white head. Very effervescent. Cloudy, especially after the last of the beer is added. Strong malt aroma, rather rich. A bit fruity, a touch sour as well. Biscuity. Very inviting. Very malty, rather sweet flavor. Some dried fruit. Not a lot of hops, but they are there, and they come in a bit at the finish. A bit more than medium carbonation, with a body that is a bit heavier than usual. Could use a touch more hopping, but the malt character is very nice.

Finians Red
Deep reddish-brown color with a fine, large head. Slightly sweet and sour aroma. A touch of sweetness, with a fruity, citrus like flavor. A touch sour, and a bit of nuttiness as well. Decent amber malt character, a lightly sweet finish with good fruity hops as well. A very nice beer, refreshing. Not super high in flavor, though. Could use a little more malt, and a little more body.

Although it describes itself as a lager, it’s much more of an ale I’d say. Decent enough appearance, with fairly rich head, but no lacing. Malt and hops on the nose, and similar on the palate, and middling mouthfeel.

It calls itself "Irish craft brewed beer" but it is quite generic, a nice malty smell, pours cloudly golden and tastes spicy, enjoy and if anyone wants some to trade, I can send!!!!!

Finians Stout
Bottled "Irish Stout". Deep dark ruby, almost opaque, good creamy tan head, lace. Chocolaty, slightly roasted aroma, hints of tobacco. Cold coffee and tobacco also in the flavor. Toasted malts and bitterish finish. Slightly watery, but with 4.3% it is something to expect.

Bottled. Golden, slightly hazy color, lively carbonation, decent cloudy head. Butterscotch (diacetyl) dominates aroma, there is some underlying hops somewhere. Quite Czech-type pils aroma. Buttery flavor, Central European type hops, medium-bodied. Quite ok, far above Irish lagers.

Black colored, big beige head. Strong chocolate and roastiness in aroma, sweetness comes up mildly with toffee. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is strongly roasted with mild chocolate, aftertaste lasts with dryness, chocolate and roastiness. Aroma is excellent!

Very nice, was my first impression, and this stayed with me, a very exciting and unexpected flavor followed by an even more unexpected palate, good one.

Finians Stout
Moderate Irish stout. Poured the expected treacle colour with a frothy tan head. Some spice in a nose that’s dominated by licorice. Medium-bodied - a little light for an Irish-made stout. Malty sweetness and a short, abrupt bitter finish. Typical stout flavours - toasted malt, licorice and coffee. Let down by the lack of body and that sudden finish. (Bottle)

Finians Red
Unusual but disappointing Irish red ale. Poured a ruddy brown colour with a decent but short-lived head. Unusual porter-like nose - cocoa powder and toasted malt. Peculiar for the style. Light body with a creamy mouthfeel. In fact, the body seems downright skinny for a red. Elusive flavour dominated by faint chocolate malt characters. Little of the bitterness you might expect. A strange kettle of fish. By no means, unpleasant but not particularly faithful to the style. (Bottle)

Finians Organic Lager
Moderate organic lager from an Irish "craft brwer". Poured a cloudy yellow colour with a fleeting 1cm head. Fresh hay in the nose and some zesty hop characters. Spoiled by some faint uric notes. Medium-bodied - firmer than you might expect for a lager. Undermined by some sour notes but it’s possible the sample was past its best (two weeks after Best Before). Quenching but unremarkable. (Bottle)

Amber colour; corn & fusels, like all good lagers; light, watery finish. Could have been worse, but if I were naming my beer after a god, I'd make more an effort, personally. Not exactly a prime homage.

I picked up a bottle of this in London this summer, thinking it would be a Nepalese beer (and a new country). It turns out, unfortunately, that it is brewed in England (Cornwall, I think) for a Nepalese restaurant in Ireland. Nice label--a brew made for the gods?--no, just typically mediocre beer. It might be o.k. with a good plate of Nepalese food, however. I wasn't going to rate this when I couldn't find a proper, established brewery, but I'm glad to see it made the database anyway.

Celtic Brew was started by Dean McGuinness in 1997, and so far appears to only produce three beers: this red ale, an Irish stout and a lager. This red ale is a definate success - a complex malt base which produces a lovely roasted barley and dark fruits flavour, superbly balanced by fragrant Northdown and German Hersbrucker hops. There is an overriding flavour that is at once familiar yet quite elusive which can been described as Irn Bru or figs, and which could be both. I picked this up in a closing down sale for 30p - quite a triumph! I understand that it is becoming more available in independent beer shops.

Mild yet appetising chocolate/toffee/charcoal aroma. Same flavours that, likewise, have little strength, nonetheless enjoyable. Despite it's mildness, retains a decent palate, certainly easy to drink this in copious quantities.

The weakest stout I've had at 4.3%, but one of the better ones. Understated as you might expect, with not much bitterness, but good dry tarry charcoal going on. tastes like yer eating the rocks in between the sleepers on a railway. not that i would advise this to anyone. trains are big and dangerous and can sneak up on you when you're not paying attention.
