Louny Tmavé Výcepní (Desítka Dark Label) 10°
Gratis bottle from my father who was over in Germany last year (2007). Nose hits me as smoked bacon. Definite dark pour with a reddish brown tint. Thin off-white head. Sweet, smoky and malty on the nose and tongue. Medium mouthfeel, gravitates towards a bit thin. The smoked sweetness is almost too much, somewhat nauseating, and I’m not getting the hops, but then again, I’m the only American to have had this beer so far... (Bottle Pour 5/18/2008)

Bottle: Clear, deep amber, almost black coloured, huge fluffy brownish head with a little lace, solid sweet dark-malty and roasted-malty nose with a discreet fruitiness and a tinge of hops; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light bodied; almost a tinge of smoke in the sweet and caramelly finish. Good, tasty Dunkel........

(bottle, courtesy of Quack-Duck) Clear, golden colour with a fluffy white foam. Moderately sweet, grainy and citrus-fruity hoppy nose. Light-bitter flavour, light bodied with a slightly sharp, fizzy carbonation. Slightly papery and grainy malty taste; dry and moderately bitter finish with metallic hops. Smells pretty good, the rest is very average.

bottle, bought at the brewery (3.8% ABV). Brown colour, nearly black, medium-size head. Aroma of malt, roasted malt and caramel. Light-bodied but full of flavour: malt, roasted malt, caramel, toffee. Not overly sweet due to the pleasant amount of hops. Well-balanced and impressively tasty.

Looks good, smells very hoppy. Bitter flavour, very hoppy indeed, hardly no malt to taste. Slightly watery, but alright at only 3,8% ABV.

Redbrown beerr; frothy yellowish head. First a bit bready nose, grassy, greenmalt. Taste again combination of bread, grassy flavours, and bitterish roasted malts notes. Slightly vinous note, liquorice and caramel. Light MF, with some chewiness from the malts, quite refreshing. Quite nice for a light beer. Bit ’stout lite’.

The beer is presented as a premium product but the quality is very poor. The beer was infected and smelled and tasted like butter. spoelbakspeciaal, bah.

Clear, golden lager color with a smallish head. Mild, soapy, fruity-hoppy aroma with some chlorine. Mild, slightly sweet, quite metallic flavor with little hops. Quite watery, slightly oily, moderately carbonated palate. Quite tasteless and watery pilsener with very little hops, malt, ABV and character. Not the worst beer in the world, but at 2,30€ a bottle, it’s definitely a never-again brew.

Nice deep dark red color with medium, off-white head. Mild, burned caramel-malty aroma, leather. Slightly sweet, burned-malty flavor with semi-dry, oily finish. The flavor is very much like Weltenburger Kloster Barock Dunkel, only an inch sweeter. Medium to full-bodied, oily palate with a very fast fading finish. Leaves a very faint, sweet aftertaste, and some sugar on the lips (as most czech dunkels do). An enjoyable and very well-balanced dunkel. Maybe even too well, as there's not much character to write about.
