3.8 Hiisi / Hatebrew Metsänpeitto 10.5.2014. Keg. Almost black with very dense thick brown foam. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Palate is quite full bodied and balanced, chocolate, slight roast, coffee, bitterness and a hint of mebtioned blueberries. Definitely top Finnish imperial stouts. Could be a bit more body. 2.7 Hatebrew Imperialistisika IPA tap@Nordic, keg aged for 1,5 years Hazy amber coloured beer with blonde to beige persistent dense head. Aroma and flavor have strawberry jam, cherries, fruit candy, syrupy sweetness, light tartness and grapefruity bitterness. Palate is quite full with heavy carbonation and feel of bitterness. Finish is dry and tart with bitterness. Aftertaste has cherries, red grapefruit, resin and plastic. Obviously this is a contaminated IPA which has generated carbonation during aging and not lost its bitterness. At first it tasted like half Oud Bruin half IPA but towards the end of the glass it was just really stale sour bitter, like drinking lingonberry juice. Thursday, March 12, 2015

3.6 Hiisi / Hatebrew Metsänpeitto Draught @ Kaisla, Helsinki. Practically black with a tan head. Malty aroma with roasted notes of coffee and chocolate; also a hint of berry-like sourness, probably because of the bilberries used. The flavour is malty sweet, somewhat bitter and has a similar sourness to that in the aroma, although not much flavour to what I would connect with bilberries is present, except maybe in the finish. Good, but could in my opinion be developed into something much better. Tuesday, June 17, 2014

3.4 Hiisi / Hatebrew Metsänpeitto Bottle at SOPP. Dark brown color, good creamy beige head. Aroma is berryish, I think it is those blueberries. Medium-bodied. Not traditional imperial stout. Blueberries are evident. Some burned toasted flavors. One step better than Hatebrew’s first. Saturday, May 17, 2014

3.6 Hiisi / Hatebrew Metsänpeitto Tap @ Naamat. Pours dark red, almost black color with a medium sized beige head, leaves some nice lacing on sides. Very malty and a bit grainy on the nose, some hops with subtle chocolate and salmiac notes, bilberry notes are quite faint but maybe that’s a good thing. Lots of hops on the flavor also, licorice and rye notes with a fairly roasty and malty backbone. I was about to mention Plevnan Siperia here but then come the slightly disturbing vegetable notes to ruin the show. This is not as refined either. With a little polishing this would be very tasty. A good bid anyway. Color me positively surprised. 4524 Friday, May 9, 2014

3.2 Hatebrew Imperialistisika IPA Quite brutal beer. I can’t believe that it only has less than 90 IBU. Would have guessed something like 150. Yes, it was very bitter, but also a bit musty. Good debut beer, I am waiting for the next one from Hatebrew guys. Thursday, January 23, 2014

3.2 Hatebrew Imperialistisika IPA Dark amber body, no head. Aroma has berries, some sourness and bit oxidized flavours. Flavour adds sorbus and caramel. Off flavoured barley wine. Poor. Re-rate in oljenkorsi. Bottle. Hazy dirty copper body. Aroma has dark yeasty hops, bit raspberry, grainy caramelly malt. Flavour has really harsh hoppiness, some citric acid and alcohol. This one is really malty and on the dark side. Too harsh for me. Tuesday, November 5, 2013

3 Hatebrew Imperialistisika IPA Tap@wka. Dark amber red. Strong piney, toasted carmel flavours. Doesn’t have the gone-bad’ness of the previous I had, but still a lot of homebrewy dirt. Up from 2.4 though. Like the freshness and unfakeness of it. Tap@oe13. Amber red copper, clear. Apparently they’ve had problems with the carbonation, so virtually flat. Initially a glueish, slight aceto- vibe on nose. Full body, nice piny mango flavours. Too bad about the carbonation, it might had bounced some of those spoilt-beer aromas. The body was good though. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone Friday, October 18, 2013
