The oxidation is evident on the taste too, though milder with distinct peach jam notes, quite pleasant, breaking through it. Lovely prickly mouthfeel, so elegant. Taste is citrusy and floral hoppy, slightly fruity, minimally sweet wheaty and biscuity malty, notes of lemon, petals, some banana, some mandarine; oily texture, smooth and soft palate, fine, prickly carbonation. High carbonation. I am unsure what to think of this - it has some off flavours, but they are on point for what the beer is trying to be. It's sweet and estery, but it kinda works. bartlebier	3.7 Schwarzwaldgold Pomme D'Or 75cl bottle pours at Craftival2018. - - Original South-Baden terroir creation of sorts, putting local cidre yeast to heavy duty single-work on a thick, bananasweet Bio-Weizenbock wort also used for the Coco d'or champagne yeast version. - - Renders: intense apple juice & applce sauce intensity in aroma and density in flavour, to the point where many drinkers would find it too sweet and densely cloying. There is a pleasant natural cider character and apple tartness that makes it work. Ar: vanilla in Apfelmus, minimally lactic/wild notes, banana quark. Remains on that fruit purée level in terms of residual sweetness and density, with an odd drinkability that worked for me on a beer festival dominated by more interchangeable hoppy US-A/IPAs. Does a very good job of transporting thick ginger, lemon and sweet lemongrass flavours on a wheat basis, albeit post-fermentation. Smells like fresh ginger, has some citrus wheat body to showcase fresh ginger, leaves with a ginger finish. - A wholly different concoction recipe-wise and in its Radler-attitude than its base beer which in its own way was an early accomplisment within the wheaty limits of RHG. Alengrin	3.3 Schwarzwaldgold Tripel-Ginger Ginger version of this German microbrewery’s tripel, at LIBF. Thick, bubbly, egg-white head collapsing in instants to almost nothing, over a cloudy straw-yellow beer. Aroma hardly offers anything else than a truckload of sharp, spicy, juicy and convincingly ‘real’ ginger juice and fresh ginger root, completely overpowering hints of white bread, lemon zest, pineapple and pear. Crisp, apple- and banana-ish sweet onset, fizzy carb, soapy, slick mouthfeel but the fresh ginger taste dominates everything from beginning to end, ending very spicy, citric, hot and ethereal. Nice gimmick but obviously completely unsuitable for people who don’t like ginger – this felt as if I was drinking a glass of actual fresh ginger juice… Monday, April 16, 2018
