3.5 Barnet Regal Cask at the Ale House, Chelmsford. Pours clear dark amber, with a small off-white head. Aroma of malt, hop, caramel, light nut and fruit. Moderate sweetness, medium bittterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Moderately bitter, malty, fruity finish. A very decent bitter (described on the pump clip as an India Pale Ale). This is a 'traditional' English IPA rather than a modern take on the style (and a lot better than the regular mainstream IPA on offer in so many pubs in the East of England). 3 Barnet / XT Palomino Cask @ Black Horse, Barnet. Golden-amber with a thin creamy-bubbly head. Pale ale with a pleasant and very palatable fruity dryness. There’s a few hops and a berry-fruitiness in its nose, with a very mild orange citrus in its taste. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 | |
