Auckland Pilsener
Pours a yellow color, not completely clear and has very little head with some lace. Aroma is grassy and a little citrousy. Flavor is soft and grassy with a dry hoppy and clean finish. Light and thirst quenching refreshing. This is a pretty good pilsener.

Auckland Dark Ale
I really like this brown ale! Sparkling clear, deep, dark, ruby ale. Medium-sized, frothy, lightly tanned head with good retention and brussels lacing (I just like to throw around the term "Brussels lacing" every now and then). Very light, pleasant aroma. Nice notes of chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon. The flavor is decently balanced, but a hint on the sweet side. Chocolatey. Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and light carbonation. The finish leaves the mouth feeling parched for quite some time. Great session beer at $.86 per bottle and 4% ABV. Unfortunately, it will be available for only a limited time in my area.

Auckland Pilsener
Much better than expected! Crystal clear, golden lager. Thick, creamy, white head with good retention and stratus cloud-like lacework. Soapy, grassy, white pepppery aroma. Well-balanced flavor. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Short, semi-dry, semi-sweet finish. If you like pilseners, get your hands on one of these.

Auckland Dark Ale
Brown bottle, 11.15 oz/330ML, with twist-off cap. Oval lable with a dragon linking motif in the background around which are the words "Naturally brewed Premium Dark Ale." It has a medal printed that states it wone a Gold Medal at the 1999 Australian International Beer Awards. Imported by Wine Mates, L.L.C. in Ellicott City, MD. Website www.abgroup.co.nz Oh yeah, the beer... Pours like a Coke with a bit of a head, but not much, and some lacing. Smells malty and rather sweet. Tastes...okay. Roasted malt is the most noticable flavor with coffee and chocolate hints. It could use more hops for balance, IMO. Funny, but it tastes a little bit like a Coke, too. There's a bit of a burnt aftertaste to it. Mouthfeel is, well, about like a Coke. It's about the same thickness and carbonation. Drinkability is pretty good. There's nothing offensive here and at only 4% ABV, it would be easy to have several of these while doing stuff around the house or whatever.

Auckland Stone Crow
It has a soft nose with a faint whiff of hop and citrus. The colour is of a typical pale ale, clean and light amber. The head is good but I am drinking this in the wrong vessel so cannot be too hard on this. Taste is soft and fruity with a clean malt profile. A bit like Little Creatures from WA (sorry Western Australia)without the presence of real mouthfeel. A good beer nevertheless. The only problem is that the label has an eagle on it, so why stone crow? Geez, what about starving the lizards?

Auckland Pilsener
Huge rocky head. Pale golden. Mildly hoppy, slightly sweet aroma. Odd earthy flavor. "Dirty" might be a better word. A unique and terrible beer from New Zealand.

Pretty roasty for a brown ale. Almost in light porter territory. Black like a Xingu.

Auckland Dark Ale
I was not too sure what to expect from this one. Pours a dark if not rich brown color with a medium light beige head. Fair lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and a little fruit. Flavor is very mild which makes it both uninteresting and easy to drink. Finish is a little thin but there are some hops in it. Nothing offensive, but pretty unexciting.

Not unlike Ringnes Pilsener. Malty and slightly hopped. I like. Good citrus aroma, too.

Woody and charcoal nose, dark brown color and a lovely tan head. Sharp roasted and burnt malt taste, almost like tobacco. Strong and aggressive beer.

Initial skunk turns to a grainy, lemony nose. Foamy fizzy head. Typical pils taste is highlighted with lemon undertones. Astringent finish and soapy mouth feel lost points with me.

Bottle. Dark brown and almost black with a laced brown head. Roasted malt aroma. Fairly light body with a grainy malt feel. Crisp with a carbonation bite. It leaves a pleasant and strong aftertaste.

No good. Skunky, rotten taste. Drain pour material here. I might have had a bad bottle, but I really dont like the style.

Auckland Pilsener
The unusual thing about this beer was the stickiness of the foam. It left the glass looking like someone had scraped marshmallow cream out of it. Green bottle, so-so label, screw-off cap. Garden variety lager, a trifle skunky. A tart palate.

Auckland Pilsener
The first New Zealand beer I had was Steinlager. It was late August 1993, at Fogg 'n Suds (which at the time was a well-respected beer bar chain in Vancouver). It was the Kitsilano location (probably the best neighbourhood on the planet), and it was the end of August, right before I went to university. That night, I had for the first time the long-departed but still missed Okanagan Old Munich (a rare dunkelweizen that I actually liked enough to buy on multiple occasions) amongst others. Anyway, they had a contest going that night involving playing Pole Position on a big screen. All these punks today with their Halo and games that have IA and everything - to hell with that I'll take the old school games that I used to play at Chuck E Cheese anyday. Give me Galaga, 1984, Pac-Man...you're damn right. Anyway, although Grand Prix was my shit, I was decent enough at Pole Position to score third place, which was a pair of Sam Adams footed pilsner glasses. I had never heard of Sam Adams at the time. Exotic shit, that was. A year late, when I got to actually try a Sam Adams I was already geared up for it, and loved it. Now, one of those glasses didn't make it to see 2002, but the other one did. And that is what I used to pour my second ever New Zealand beer, nine freakin' years later, into. Yeah, it's a grassy pseudo-pils around 22 IBUs with some honey and grain husk notes and an off-dry finish, but more importantly, the drought is over and I can get on with those Kiwi beers at the Ratebeer Summer Party next week in peace.

Auckland Pilsener
This beer poured a straw color and left a white head that subsided with a just a little lace. The aroma was of hops. The flavor as well was of hops and there was a bit of a bite in the finish. A servicable beer, but since it considers itself a Czech style pilsener, there are better ones out there.

The label says it's hopped a ton, but this one is much more sweet and grassy than it is bitter. This isn't exactly a deep thinker, but certainly not something you'll throw out. Enjoyable.

Auckland Dark Ale
I'd rank this as a mild ale, not a brown, but who's quibbling? This one's pretty assertive with the roastiness despite being only 4% abv. Easy-drinking light body and ejoyable on the whole.

Auckland Pilsener
Clear gold, a generous white head and fair lace. Malt nose, crisp and clean, front is malt, the top light, the finish nicely hopped and dry. Drinkable, but my natural bias against Lagers/Pils makes me not care much for it.
